About the Position:

The Procurement Coordinator, Tariff and Customs, supports the compliant and cost-effective movement of goods across borders. The role coordinates tariff classification, customs documentation, origin analysis, duty programs, broker activity, and related procurement administration. Working under the direction of the Procurement Manager, the Coordinator maintains accurate records, supports timely import and export transactions, identifies compliance or cost risks, and assists internal stakeholders with customs and trade requirements.

Review product descriptions, technical specifications, composition, function, and intended use to support accurate Harmonized System (HS), Canadian tariff, HTSUS, and Schedule B classifications.
Maintain a current classification database, including tariff codes, rationale, supporting product information, applicable duty rates, and effective dates.
Coordinate classification questions with customs brokers, suppliers, engineering, operations, finance, and other internal subject-matter experts.
Support customs valuation by collecting and reviewing transaction values, assists, royalties, freight, tooling, transfer-pricing information, and other relevant cost elements.
Determine and document country of origin using applicable origin rules, substantial-transformation principles, tariff-shift rules, regional-value-content requirements, and product-specific rules.
Assess eligibility for Free Trade Agreements, including USMCA/CUSMA, CETA, CPTPP, and other applicable programs, and retain supporting origin documentation.
Request, review, validate, and track supplier certificates of origin, declarations, affidavits, and product-specific supporting records.
Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates, permits, and customs-entry information for completeness and consistency before or after shipment.
Monitor import and export control requirements and escalate goods that may require permits, licences, government-agency review, or additional documentation.
Support analysis of special tariff measures, including Section 232, Section 301, Anti-Dumping duties, and Countervailing Duties, and communicate potential cost or sourcing impacts.
Apply end-use provisions and tariff-engineering concepts where appropriate, ensuring that any proposed treatment is supported by product facts and documented rationale.
Investigate classification, origin, valuation, or documentation discrepancies and coordinate corrective action with brokers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Identify transactions that may qualify for duty drawback, duty relief, remission, temporary importation, end-use authorization, or other available customs programs.
Collect and reconcile import entries, export records, bills of material, proof of payment, inventory information, and supporting documents required for claims or applications.
Act as a day-to-day contact for customs brokers and freight providers on entry instructions, missing information, shipment holds, release issues, and document corrections.
Provide brokers with accurate purchase-order data, product descriptions, tariff classifications, origin information, valuation details, and special-program instructions.

One to three years of relevant entry-level experience in procurement, customs, logistics, import/export administration, or supply-chain coordination. Practical experience should include several of the following:

Purchase-order management

Freight or cross-border shipment coordination
Supplier communication and follow-up
Customs broker coordination
Tariff classification, country-of-origin, or trade-agreement documentation
Record maintenance, data reconciliation, and issue tracking
Working knowledge of customs compliance concepts, tariff classification, valuation, origin, and import/export documentation.
Ability to read product specifications and convert technical information into clear customs or procurement records.
Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, documentation discipline, and follow-through.
