Elementary International Language Supply Instructors - Polish Language

St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centre - International Languages Program

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board with a total student population of 38,000, provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12) across the Waterloo Region.

The WCDSB also operates numerous Adult Learning and Continuing Education programs through St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres.

General Description Of Program

IL Instructors support the language learning of each student in the classroom. They have responsibility related to the program, the students, the parents, the community, and the classroom. The instructors must understand the concepts of equity and inclusiveness in the Canadian context.

You will report to the Program Manager of the International and Indigenous Languages Program.

General Description Of Duties

Supporting student learning, and supporting program success in the physical environment
Foster a safe and secure classroom environment
Identify what students are expected to know and be able to do (learning goals) and what it looks like when they are successful (success criteria), and share this information effectively with students and parents
Interact effectively with students using different technological tools in an organized and systematic way
Explore new solutions, e-tools, platforms to engage all students in a real life, task based, relevant to student experience learning of the second language
Be flexible and innovative while planning, conducting, and managing a classroom
Develop long and short-term lesson plans to meet the needs and program objectives
Using the target language as the language of instruction and communication whenever possible
Participating in staff meetings, educational conferences, instructor training workshops, and extracurricular cultural events and activities
Collaborate with the school community, parents, and other teachers to improve teaching methods, explore new and safe platforms and improve student wellbeing
Utilize Google Meet when needed to deliver the teaching of reading story/literature, demonstration/writing, reading aloud and conversation with the students

Minimum Requirements

Fluent in oral and written target language
Professional proficiency in English
Eligible to work in Canada
Available for in-person classes

Professional experience teaching languages & working with children
Passionate about different cultures and the power of learning languages
Ability to deliver programs in a fun and dynamic approach
Degree in child development, elementary education, foreign language education

Location: Holy Spirit CES - 15 Gatehouse Drive, Cambridge

Program Hours: Saturdays – 9:30am – 12:00pm

Teach Polish to elementary students, support their language learning, and create a safe, inclusive classroom environment. Plan and deliver engaging lessons using the target language and appropriate technology, while collaborating with parents, teachers, and the school community.

Requirements

Applicants must be fluent in spoken and written Polish, have professional proficiency in English, be eligible to work in Canada, and be available to teach in person. Experience teaching languages or working with children and a degree in child development, elementary education, or foreign language education are desirable assets.
