Waterloo Hydrogeologic develops software that helps scientists, engineers, and environmental professionals assess and manage groundwater and water resources. As part of Nova Ventures Group, we support customers around the world with software and technical expertise that help address complex water challenges.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Junior Software Test and Support Specialist to join our team in Waterloo, Ontario. This is an opportunity for a recent graduate or someone early in their software testing career to gain practical experience working alongside our software development and support teams.

Your primary focus will be testing software, identifying and documenting bugs, and verifying fixes before new releases reach our customers. You’ll also help our technical support team troubleshoot customer issues as needed, giving you exposure to both software quality assurance and the customer experience.

This position is based onsite at our Waterloo office.

What You’ll Do

Execute test plans and test cases to check software functionality and identify issues.

Clearly document bugs, including steps to reproduce them, and share findings with the development team.

Verify fixes and perform regression testing to help ensure existing features continue to work as expected.

Help create and maintain test cases, testing documentation, and results.

Learn and contribute to desktop software test automation using tools such as Python and TestComplete.

Work with developers and support colleagues to investigate software issues.

Provide backup technical support for software installation, functionality, and usage questions.

What We’re Looking For

A diploma, degree, or certificate in computer science, software quality assurance, software development, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

A foundational understanding of software testing and quality assurance through coursework, projects, internships, co op placements, or professional experience.

Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.

Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain an issue and document what happened.

A willingness to learn, ask questions, and work collaboratively.

Good organization and the ability to follow through on assigned tasks.

Recent graduates and candidates with up to two years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Previous professional software testing experience is not required.

Helpful, but Not Required

Exposure to Python, TestComplete, or other test automation tools.

Familiarity with SQL, Microsoft Access, or basic networking concepts.

Experience testing desktop applications.

Customer service or technical support experience.

An interest in scientific software, environmental applications, or water resources.
