Manager, Guidewire

Req ID: 871

Location: Dartmouth, NS (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Lead the System That Helps Nova Scotians Recover

If you've ever looked at a tangled ecosystem of applications, integrations, releases, cloud services, and business processes and thought, "I can make this better," keep reading.

The Workers' Compensation Board of Nova Scotia is looking for a Manager of Guidewire to lead the evolution of one of the organization's most critical technology platforms. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex systems problems, building high-performing technical teams, and creating order from chaos.

You'll work at the intersection of technology, product strategy, and business operations - guiding the future of our Guidewire Cloud ecosystem while helping deliver meaningful outcomes for injured workers and employers across the province.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Think of yourself as the captain of a technology ecosystem.

You'll lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for delivering enhancements, integrations, releases, automation initiatives, and platform improvements across the Guidewire suite. One day you might be reviewing deployment strategies and CI/CD pipelines. The next, you'll be helping prioritize a cloud release, untangling integration challenges, or shaping a roadmap with business leaders.

You'll be responsible for:

Architecting Delivery, Not Just Managing It

  • Lead a cross-functional team of developers, analysts, QA professionals, DevOps engineers, and project resources.
  • Set priorities, remove obstacles, and make key delivery decisions.
  • Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to translate complex operational needs into practical technology outcomes.

Owning a Cloud Platform at Scale

  • Drive the roadmap for enhancements across the Guidewire Cloud platform.
  • Lead planning and execution of Guidewire Cloud releases.
  • Balance new capabilities, platform stability, technical debt reduction, automation opportunities, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure production remains stable while continuously improving it.

Solving Interesting Technical Problems

You'll work with technologies and concepts such as:

  • Enterprise integrations
  • APIs and event-driven architectures
  • Cloud-native delivery models
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Deployment automation
  • Release management
  • System reliability and scalability
  • Cross-platform data flows

You'll collaborate closely on solutions spanning:

  • ClaimCenter
  • PolicyCenter
  • BillingCenter
  • SmartCOMM Cloud
  • External enterprise systems

Building Systems That Don't Wake People Up at 2 A.M.

  • Improve release quality and predictability.
  • Strengthen regression and integration testing strategies.
  • Reduce operational risk.
  • Increase platform resilience and performance.

Why a Tech Leader Might Love This Role

✅ You get to influence architecture and technical direction.

✅ You're leading a modern cloud platform - not maintaining legacy systems in isolation.

✅ You'll work across product, development, QA, DevOps, and business teams.

✅ You'll tackle real-world enterprise challenges involving integrations, automation, reliability, and scale.

✅ The work matters. Every improvement helps support workers and employers throughout Nova Scotia.

What You Bring

You're someone who enjoys system design as much as delivery strategy.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years in technical product management, delivery leadership, or a similar role.
  • Experience with Guidewire or comparable insurance platforms.
  • Experience working in cloud environments.
  • Leadership experience guiding technical teams and delivery outcomes.

Technical Cred

You have a strong understanding of:

  • API design and integrations
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Data flows and system connectivity
  • Cloud-based platforms
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices
  • Agile delivery and technology leadership

Most importantly, you can comfortably move between architecture conversations with engineers and strategic conversations with executives.

Bonus XP

Extra points if you have experience with:

  • Guidewire certifications
  • Insurance technology platforms
  • AI-enabled insurance solutions
  • Digital transformation initiatives
  • SmartCOMM Cloud or similar CCM platforms
  • ProNavigator

About Us

At WCB Nova Scotia, technology supports a mission that genuinely matters.

Our employees describe our culture as:

Collaborative. Evolving. Service-Minded. Team-Focused.

We believe great technology teams thrive when they have meaningful problems to solve, talented colleagues to work with, and a purpose larger than the platform itself.

If you enjoy leading teams, modernizing systems, and transforming complex enterprise platforms into something better, we'd love to hear from you.
