About the Job
We are hiring a MEP Technical Coordinator to step into an existing role on our Design team on the Hazel McCallion project. This position reports to the Senior Technical Manager.
What You Will Be Doing?
- Own assigned MEP technical packages, priorities and outstanding actions, coordinating design progression, construction support and closeout.
- Maintain regular site presence and participate in field walks to identify issues early and coordinate practical resolutions with construction teams and subcontractors.
- Coordinate directly with designers and Engineers of Record to resolve design clarifications, field discrepancies and interdisciplinary conflicts.
- Review IFC packages, drawings, specifications, shop drawings and material submissions for constructability, completeness, sequencing and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces with civil, structural, architectural, utilities and rail systems teams, including equipment rooms, penetrations and maintenance access.
- Ensure RFIs received from construction teams or subcontractors are clearly articulated with technical background, sketches, photographs and proposed solutions,
- Maintain track of all RFIs, submittals, NCRs, SIs, CRRs and review comments through timely closure.
- Support technical investigations and Quality teams with evidence for NCR closure, obtaining designer input and approvals for proposed corrective measures.
- Communicate approved design revisions and Site Instructions to affected teams; assess schedule, cost and interface impacts and escalate risks with recommendations.
- Perform quantity take-offs and support procurement packages, technical scopes of work, tender evaluations and coordination of subcontractor and supplier submissions.
- Support construction planning, installation sequencing and technical optimization, including temporary works interfaces and testing and commissioning dependencies.
- Work with Document Control to maintain accurate technical registers, submissions, approval workflows and current construction documentation while ensuring latest drawings are always uploaded and available for everyone’s use.
- Support testing, commissioning, systems handover and technical deficiency closure; coordinate redlines, field changes, as-builts and turnover package completeness.
- Promote project safety and quality requirements and contribute to lessons learned and improvements in technical coordination and issue tracking.
What We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent technical training and relevant experience.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience on major infrastructure, transit, industrial or complex building projects, preferably with a general contractor, design-build contractor or major MEP subcontractor.
- Strong working knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems, with deeper expertise in at least one discipline; understanding of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, power and lighting interfaces.
- Demonstrated construction support experience through design coordination, subcontractor engagement and resolution of field technical issues.
- Ability to interpret MEP drawings and specifications and coordinate constructability, installation sequencing, access and interdisciplinary requirements.
- Familiarity with RFI, NCR, SI, CRR and IFC review processes, quantity take-offs, procurement support and schedule integration.
- Working knowledge of applicable Ontario mechanical, electrical, building and fire codes and authority requirements; transit or rail experience is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Bluebeam and document management systems such as Procore or Aconex; familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation or tools is an asset.
- PMP certification or EIT/P.Eng. designation is an asset
Expected Compensation
Successful candidates chosen for this position can expect to earn between $90,000.00 CAD - $120,000.00 CAD. The exact salary you will earn within this range is dependant on the specific project to which you are assigned.
