You will be part of our Hazel McCallion LRT project, playing a key role in driving its success and contributing to one of Canada’s most exciting infrastructure projects.
About the Job
We are hiring a Utilities Manager to step into an existing role on our Construction team on the Hazel McCallion project. This position reports to the Deputy Construction Director.
What You Will Be Doing?
- Coordinating the implementation of utility relocations (gas, hydro, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, communication, cable TV, oil pipelines, Hydro One Corridor, Traffic System Implementation, Public Sector Network Integration, Transit Infrastructure Coordination.)
- Reviewing the utility designs prepared by section designers and/or utility authorities for compliance with the client’s Engineering design criteria and other applicable criteria;
- Coordinating the development of contractual strategies to facilitate relocations including standalone contracts and/or the integration of utility work into the project’s comprehensive civil construction contracts
- Ensuring that utility relocations or protection designs are following utility requirements and proper analysis is needed from a risk perspective;
- Verifying the location and condition of utilities including the necessary inspection of services using industry standard Subs Surface Utility techniques;
- Negotiating and managing cost sharing agreements with utility companies;
- Establishing and implementing the necessary Utility Baseline Document for utility work;
- Provide direction and analysis of the costs/risks and decision to relocate or support utilities in situ;
- Ensuring that utility relocations are planned/executed in accordance with the Utility Baseline Document program/project schedule;
- Reviewing and approving the invoices for utility work completed by others;
- Coordinate with section designers and department leads in the collection of base utility data and implementation of Utility designs and solutions through the HuLRT project;
- Manage all UCC and PUCC applications that will be needed to be processed and approved before construction can be approved
- Meeting with public and private utility authorities to resolve outstanding scope, schedule and/or budget issues;
- Coordinating with Property, Permits and other client staff with respect to utility interfaces;
- Providing support to construction and design staff including review of submittals, Requests for Information (RFIs), contract changes, etc.;
- Participating in inter disciplinary discussions to develop and coordinate design standards, master specifications, standards and directive drawings;
- Ensuring that the client's construction contracts are fully coordinated and are high quality from a utility perspective;
What We Are Looking For:
- University degree or college degree in Civil Engineering or related specializing in municipal services and/or roadway design, or the equivalent;
- Minimum 10 to 15 years of relevant experience
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is an asset;
- PMP certification is also an asset;
- Requires in-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, methods and practices for the design and construction of utilities and services, drainage, site restoration, including general familiarity with track and roadway engineering for urban transit projects
- Knowledge of project management process including an understanding of the need to meet cost and schedule requirements is essential;
- Knowledge of legal framework for implementing civil/utility infrastructure in Ontario, and a strong knowledge of applicable codes and legislation
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction methods and procedures
- Extensive and relevant engineering design/construction experience in multidisciplinary environment where detailed drawings and specifications specific to utilities design are produced;
- Proven project management, risk analysis skills and the ability to coordinate complex engineering issues in a fast paced, schedule driven, multi-agency project environment;
Expected Compensation
Successful candidates chosen for this position can expect to earn between $150,000.00 CAD - $180,000.00 CAD. The exact salary you will earn within this range is dependant on the specific project to which you are assigned.
