Job title: IT Project Architect

Location: Ottawa

Work Arrangement: Primarily Onsite

About the role

We are seeking an experienced IT Project Architect to lead the architecture, design and delivery of a large-scale Defence Network Infrastructure and Systems Modernization initiative. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing end-to-end technical solutions across network, infrastructure, cloud, and cybersecurity domains, ensuring alignment with operational, security, and business objectives. Working closely with stakeholders, architects, engineers, and project teams, you will provide technical leadership, drive architecture governance and design reviews, manage risks, and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with Government of Canada and DND/CAF standards within a complex, mission-critical environment.

What we do at Weir

Weir is a global leader in mining technology for a sustainable future. Outside the mining sector, Weir Marine Engineering has managed and operated the Naval Engineering Test Establishment for the Department of National Defence (DND) since 1964. At Weir Marine Engineering (WME), we apply engineering/technical expertise to the complex challenges of mission-critical naval systems, contributing to the reliability, security, and performance of systems that are essential to Canada's maritime defence capabilities.

Make your impact

What you’ll do

Solution Architecture Leadership: Lead the architecture, design, and technical direction for a Defence Network Infrastructure and Systems Modernization initiative, ensuring alignment with operational, business, and security objectives
Technical Design & Integration: Develop and maintain end-to-end solution architectures across network, infrastructure, cloud, virtualization, storage, compute, and cybersecurity domains, ensuring scalable, secure, and integrated solutions
Architecture Governance & Risk Management: Lead architecture reviews, technical assessments, design approvals, and risk management activities while ensuring compliance with Government of Canada, DND/CAF, and cybersecurity standards
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, and technical specialists to define requirements, resolve technical challenges, and support project decision-making
Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world-class safety culture

What you’ll bring

We value what you can do - not just where you’ve been. If you meet the goals of the role, we want to hear from you.

Must-haves:

10+ years of experience in IT architecture, infrastructure modernization, or enterprise technology transformation initiatives
Demonstrated experience leading solution architecture and technical design activities for large-scale, complex IT projects
Strong expertise in enterprise networking, compute, storage, virtualization, cloud technologies, and systems integration
Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, secure architecture practices, and Zero Trust concepts
Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and technical leadership skills

Mandatory Requirement:

Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret

Nice to Have (Optional):

Experience supporting projects within Government of Canada, DND/CAF, or other highly regulated environments
Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or equivalent methodologies
Industry certifications in architecture, cloud, cybersecurity, or project management
Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure modernization or defence-related programs

Why join Weir?

We live our values - we think safety first, do the right thing, respect each other, aim high and delight our customers. We encourage our people to lead by example and celebrate our successes.

We’re passionate about our purpose - to help deliver the natural resources that are essential to create a better future for the world.
