About the Role
The Janitor reports to the Support Services Manager and/or designate and performs all aspects of cleaning duties in the community common areas to maintain the established standards for sanitation, cleanness, and safe work environment for all persons served.
Responsibilities
Include but not limited to:
- Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and
maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the
organizational culture and purpose.
- Carries
out all aspects of routine and rotation cleaning throughout the building and
suites which include: dusting, vacuuming and sweeping; cleaning appliances;
washing floors, walls, windows and doors; changing and making beds, removing
curtains/window coverings for cleaning and re-hanging; garbage removal;
terminal cleaning of suites.
- Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through:
- accident prevention,
- knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations,
- the safe use of supplies and equipment and
reporting when repairs are necessary
- keeps work area in an orderly, safe and clean
condition
- keeps inventory in order on individual carts;
replenishes supplies throughout the building, and
- Utilizing infection control procedures
- Reports significant changes or uncommon resident behaviour or concerns to nursing staff as required.
- Attends
and participates in community and education programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Grade 10 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- WHMIS
Certificate.
- First
Aid Certificate as applicable.
- Free from communicable diseases and allergies or conditions which may be aggravated by working with cleaners, detergents, and equipment.
- Demonstrates
collaborative and team working skills.
- Ability
to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written
instructions.
- All
successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check
applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Must be in good health, physically able to perform
repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required to perform the
duties of the position.
