Location: Fort St. John, BC
Compensation: $20-$25 per hour
Start Date: Immediate
Company Overview
West Sixth Construction is a growing Fort St. John construction company known for its commitment to quality, transparency, and innovation. With a close-knit team of approximately 10, we're proud of our reputation for integrity in both residential and commercial construction.
Opportunity
We're seeking an organized and proactive Operations Coordinator to join our team for a 12-month leave coverage position.
This role is central to the day-to-day operation of our business, supporting administration, financial processes, human resources, and project coordination. Working closely with company leadership and our construction team, you'll help ensure our operations run efficiently and our projects stay organized.
This position requires a high degree of independence and self-direction. You'll frequently be working alone in the office, with management and field staff working off-site. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing their own workload, prioritizing tasks, and taking initiative without constant supervision, while maintaining effective communication with the broader team.
As a small and growing company, we value adaptability, initiative, and a willingness to take ownership of a broad range of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operations Coordination: Support daily business operations, coordinate internal workflows, and maintain effective communication between management, field staff, and subcontractors.
- Office Administration: Maintain company records, administrative systems, correspondence, and general office functions.
- Financial Administration: Prepare client invoices, track project expenses, allocate costs, and assist with accounts payable reporting.
- Payroll Administration: Review employee timesheets and prepare bi-weekly payroll.
- Human Resources: Coordinate employee onboarding, maintain personnel records, and assist with training and compliance requirements.
- Project Coordination: Support project budgets, schedules, subcontractor coordination, and documentation, including change orders and RFIs.
- Estimating Support: Assist with supplier pricing, preliminary cost breakdowns, quotations, and tender submissions as required.
- Document Control: Maintain accurate and organized project files, ensuring current documentation is accessible to the appropriate team members.
- Process Improvement: Help develop and maintain internal systems, policies, and procedures to improve organizational efficiency.
- Previous experience in office administration, business operations, or project coordination.
- Experience in the construction industry is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with invoicing, accounts payable, payroll, or project cost tracking.
- Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets and general office software.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential information.
- A proactive, adaptable approach to problem-solving.
- Flexible, part-time employment for a 12-month term.
- Opportunity to gain experience across multiple aspects of construction business operations.
- Supportive team environment with considerable independence in day-to-day work.
- Direct involvement in the operations of a growing local business.
- A varied role offering meaningful responsibility and opportunities for professional development.
If you're a detail-oriented professional who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and thrives in a small team environment, we'd like to hear from you.
Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience to Careers@WestSixth.ca.
Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
