Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

The posted salary range reflects varying levels of experience, from professionals developing their expertise to those with several years of directly relevant experience. While the full range represents the potential earnings for the role, it is not typical for new hires to start at the top of the range. Placement within the range is based on qualifications, experience, and alignment with internal equity.

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (“WCI”), a private investment company based in Victoria, British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join its Information Technology team in Calgary. WCI is a single-family office managing assets through internal direct investments and third-party external managers across a variety of portfolios and asset classes, including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure and real estate.

Reporting to the IT Director, the Systems Administrator plays a key role in supporting the technology needs of multiple businesses and private residences across Calgary and other Alberta locations. The position combines systems and infrastructure administration with responsive, hands-on support for users at all levels of the organization.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, service-focused, and collaborative IT professional who enjoys solving problems and helping people. They will be comfortable working in a fast-paced operational environment, able to manage changing priorities and skilled at explaining technical information in a clear and easy-to-understand way. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and a high level of personal accountability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support and maintain cloud-based and on-premises systems, servers and networks in collaboration with other members of the IT team.
Configure, monitor and support Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services within assigned areas of responsibility.
Monitor, maintain, patch and troubleshoot cloud and on-premises servers, networks and related infrastructure.
Assist with evaluating vendor patches, system releases, and new technology products.
Support the implementation of approved hardware, software, and infrastructure changes.
Ensure system hardware, software, configurations, and procedures to meet organizational standards.
Maintain accurate technical documentation, operating procedures, configuration information, and support records.
Provide proactive, responsive, and highly professional support to a wide variety of users, including employees, executives, and shareholders.
Deliver hands-on technology support at corporate offices, operating businesses and private residences.
Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, connectivity, and application issues through the Company’s ticketing system.
Deploy, configure and troubleshoot Windows and Apple computers, mobile devices, printers, peripherals and corporate applications.
Support office technology, including telephones, video-conferencing equipment, shared display screens, and other workplace systems.
Communicate technical information clearly and in a way that is easy for non-technical users to understand.
Take ownership of user issues, follow them through to resolution and provide timely, user-friendly updates.
Escalate complex issues appropriately and coordinate solutions with internal team members and external vendors.
Maintain assigned hardware and software inventories, deployment records, stock levels, and lifecycle information.
Work closely with IT colleagues to coordinate priorities, resolve incidents, and maintain reliable technology services.
Build positive working relationships with users across different businesses, roles, and locations.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing within the IT team.
Maintain and update IT policies, procedures, and user documentation.
Support technology projects through implementation, testing, training, and documentation.
Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and overall user experience.
Complete weekly after-hours system maintenance as required.
Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation approximately once per month.
Travel regularly to different businesses and private residences in Calgary and other Alberta locations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Post-secondary degree or diploma in information technology or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Relevant technical certifications are considered an asset.
Seven or more years of progressive information technology experience, preferably within an operational, multi-site or similarly service-focused operational environment.
Strong experience configuring, monitoring and supporting Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
Strong experience supporting cloud services, servers, networks, and on-premises infrastructure.
Experience working in an environment of comparable complexity, including approximately 30 servers and 300 endpoints.
Strong experience deploying, configuring and troubleshooting Windows, macOS and iOS devices. Experience with Android devices is considered an asset.
Demonstrated experience providing hands-on support to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
Experience supporting multiple businesses, locations, private residences, or executive users is considered an asset.
Exceptional customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to responsive, proactive, and user-focused support.
Ability to translate technical information into clear, practical language for non-technical users.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple requests and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and relationship-management skills.
Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of an IT team while also working independently and taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.
Ability to remain calm, responsive, and solutions focused when managing urgent requests or conflicting priorities.
Strong documentation skills and a commitment to consistent processes and operating practices.
Sound judgment and the ability to handle private and confidential information with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
Flexibility to complete weekly after-hours maintenance and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation approximately once per month.
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel between work locations.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
