Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000

The posted salary range reflects varying levels of experience, from emerging professionals to those with several years of relevant experience. While the full range represents the potential earnings for the role, it is not typical for new hires to start at the top of the range. Placement within the range is based on qualifications, experience, and alignment with internal equity.

Westerkirk Capital Inc. (‘WCI’), a private investment company based in Victoria, BC, is a single-family office managing a diversified portfolio of businesses and assets across asset classes including fixed income, public equity, private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure, real estate, and directly owned operating companies.

The Analyst, Portfolio Companies will sit within the Alternative Investments team and support Westerkirk’s oversight of its directly owned operating companies, from recurring reporting workflows and performance monitoring to the preparation of materials and analyses of budgets, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives in support of senior executives and other stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Supporting the Alternative Investments team in the following areas:

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

Support recurring reporting workflows, including the collection and quality control of monthly and quarterly reporting packages, financial statements, KPIs, and operating metrics.
Assist in consolidating financial and operating information from portfolio companies into clear, decision-useful reports and dashboards for use at the Westerkirk level.
Monitor budget-versus-actual performance and key operating metrics across portfolio companies, and help identify variances, trends, and emerging issues for review.

Executive & Stakeholder Support

Assist in drafting presentation materials, pre-read summaries, and supporting analyses for senior executives and other stakeholders.
Support the preparation of questions for portfolio company management ahead of key meetings and reporting cycles, and help track management responses and follow-up items.
Support the maintenance of reporting calendars, standing information requirements, and meeting cadences across portfolio companies.

Financial & Transaction Analysis

Support the review and analysis of portfolio company budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans.
Assist in monitoring business cases, evaluating material acquisitions, divestitures, capital projects, and other significant initiatives at portfolio companies through financial modeling, valuation analysis, and return calculations, under the direction of senior team members.
Assist with internal valuations of businesses and assets using standard methodologies with review and sign-off by senior team members.

Process & Reporting Architecture

Assist in improving the quality, timeliness, and reliability of information available to senior executives and other stakeholders.
Support the ongoing development of standardized reporting frameworks across Westerkirk’s portfolio companies.
Help ensure reporting processes are well-documented and scale effectively as the portfolio grows.
Prepare and present ad hoc analysis and research as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field, with a minimum of one to three years of experience in corporate finance, financial planning & analysis, investment analysis, or consulting.
Progress towards a CFA, CPA, CBV, or CAIA designation is an asset.
Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills, with rigorous attention to detail.
Knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and performance measurement principles and practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate analysis into clear, actionable insights.
Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times, and to exercise diplomacy and discretion.
Service-oriented, pro-active self-starter, comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in a diverse working environment.
Honesty and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.
