The base salary will be $71,970 - $102,690 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this is an 11-month temporary full-time contract opportunity covering a leave of absence.

About Us

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) advances the university’s teaching and learning mission by providing orientation, training, mentorship, research and innovation opportunities for faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at Western so that they can create inclusive, high-quality undergraduate and graduate learning experiences for students. The CTL team works to foster and enhance best practices in teaching and learning at Western in partnership with the Faculties, Western Libraries, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, Office of Indigenous Initiatives, Student Experience, Western International, and Western Technology Services. The CTL advocates for teaching excellence and research on teaching at Western, nationally, and internationally.

Responsibilities

Curriculum Review and Renewal:

The Educational Developer, Curriculum is critical to the Centre for Teaching and Learning’s mandate of supporting departments and faculties in curriculum design and renewal as part of Western’s Institutional Quality Assurance (IQAP) process. The Developer advises on course and academic program development in consultation with academic units. The Developer also designs programs and services to support continuous curricular improvement and teaching excellence among faculty members and departments across the university. The Developer supports departments in curriculum review and renewal, including providing consultation during the design of course and program learning outcomes for new degree programs, and assisting departments with designing outcomes assessment. The Developer also provides leadership, training and one-on-one design support for departments and faculty in their efforts to enhance teaching and learning.

Faculty Development:

In addition, the Educational Developer, Curriculum provides expertise to instructors on creating engaging and inclusive learning environments for students. This may include consultations on pedagogical and strategic areas of importance, including assessment design, active learning, generative AI, and equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, and assessment (EDIDA). The Educational Developer designs and facilitates workshops in multiple modalities (including face-to-face, online, and blended), develops asynchronous resources, and offers one-on-one consultations to instructors. The Developer also contributes to regular CTL programming such as annual conferences and orientation events.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s degree in curriculum, education, or a related field
PhD degree in curriculum, education or a related field preferred

Experience:

2 years of progressive experience developing resources as well as designing and facilitating workshops/programs for instructors across a range of teaching modalities
2 years of experience teaching at the college or university level
Previous experience in course design and continuous curricular improvement
Previous experience facilitating educational development opportunities
Experience coordinating events and managing projects
Experience facilitating online or blended workshops for instructors in a post-secondary setting preferred
Experience conducting program evaluation and project management preferred
Experience facilitating institutional curricular renewal or review processes preferred
Teaching and/or course development experience in blended and/or online modalities preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of adult learning theories and their application, with skills in developing instructional resources and activities
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding (i.e. functionality, application) of outcomes-based curriculum design
Knowledge of theory and principles of effective teaching and learning strategies, activities, and assessments
Demonstrated knowledge, experience and practice in training, program development and one-on-one consultations
Experience with Learning Management Systems, knowledge of D2L Brightspace an advantage
Demonstrated knowledge of project management and the ability to manage multiple projects, people, and schedules within an academic term framework preferred
Ability to relate to faculty academically and bridge understanding of disciplinary pedagogy into various delivery formats
Ability to work with a variety of faculty members, subjects and teaching preferences while establishing proactive, positive consulting relationships
Effective presentation skills to small, large and diverse audiences
Exceptional written and verbal communication, professional and interpersonal skills
Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
Ability to work in a team environment at multiple organizational levels within Western
