Westhills Equine Veterinary Services is seeking an Equine Appointment Veterinarian to join our growing team.
This is more than a traditional equine associate position. About the Role
As our Equine Appointment Veterinarian, you'll provide primary medical oversight for scheduled outpatient appointments while building strong relationships with both clients and their horses.
You'll own your cases from initial assessment through treatment planning, client communication, and follow-up, while working alongside dedicated appointment support staff who help prepare patients, coordinate diagnostics, and keep appointments running efficiently. When a patient requires hospitalization or advanced inpatient monitoring, care is intentionally transitioned to our Hospital Veterinarian, allowing you to maintain focus on your scheduled caseload while ensuring every patient receives the level of care they need. Some emergency care work required, (~1/6 rotation).

You'll play a leading role in:
- Scheduled equine appointments and outpatient case management
- Sports medicine and lameness evaluations, based on experience and interest
- Preventive health and wellness care
- Diagnostic imaging and outpatient procedures
- Client education, treatment planning, and follow-up
- Maintaining timely medical records and invoicing at the point of care whenever possible
- Collaborating with the Hospital Veterinarian when patients require admission or advanced monitoring
- Delegating tasks to trained and capable assistants
- Building long-term client relationships through exceptional communication and continuity of care
What We're Looking For
Required
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent
- Eligible for veterinary licensure in Alberta
- Strong equine medicine skills
- Valid driver's licence
Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys appointment-based, client-focused equine practice.
- Builds strong relationships through excellent communication and compassionate client care.
- Has experience or a strong interest in sports medicine, lameness, dentistry, preventive medicine, or general equine practice.
- Is comfortable collaborating with RVTs, assistants, and technical staff while appropriately delegating tasks.
- Values organized workflows, complete follow-through, and efficient patient care.
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment, initiative, and professionalism.
- Enjoys contributing to a collaborative team while continuing to grow professionally.

Starting Salary: $110,000+ annually, with compensation increasing based on experience and expertise.

Westhills EVS is located just 10 minutes west of Stony Plain and 30 minutes west of Edmonton, with easy access from Highway 16.
