Role Description The Pharmacy Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based at Whitby Compounding Pharmacy & Medical Centre in Whitby, ON. In this position, the Pharmacy Assistant supports daily pharmacy operations, including preparing and processing prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist, entering and updating patient information, and managing pharmacy records accurately. The role involves assisting with inventory control, receiving and organizing stock, monitoring expiration dates, and ensuring medications and supplies are properly stored. The Pharmacy Assistant provides courteous, efficient customer service, responds to patient inquiries in person and by phone, maintains professional phone etiquette, and helps coordinate with medical center staff to support safe and timely patient care. The role also includes maintaining a clean, organized workspace and complying with all pharmacy policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong prescription processing and basic pharmacy operations skills, with the ability to work under pharmacist supervision.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, including professional phone etiquette for interacting with patients and healthcare providers.
- Experience with inventory management, including ordering, receiving, organizing, and tracking pharmacy stock accurately.
- Knowledge of pharmacy best practices, confidentiality standards, and relevant regulations; prior experience in a pharmacy or medical setting is an asset.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Comfort with using pharmacy software and basic computer applications for data entry and record keeping.
- Completion of a Pharmacy Assistant or related healthcare program, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
