Overview
The Field Optimization Engineer is an integral member of an asset-based, multi-disciplinary team providing support to Field Operations, Facility Engineering, and Operations Engineering. This role focuses on day-to-day production optimization, pipeline and facility bottlenecking, well workovers, and Operating Cost reduction initiatives. This position will report to the Team Lead, Field Optimization Engineering.
Responsibilities
GENERAL
- Primary contact for the Calgary Operations Engineers and Field Operations as it relates to base production; artificial lift, gathering systems, production optimization and operating costs
- Safety and Regulatory – ensure safe and compliant operations
- Cost Control – plan, track and optimize all capital and operating cost projects
- Program execution – liaise with Calgary Operations and Field Operations to identify risks to capital program and develop mitigation strategies
PRODUCTION
- Optimize base production through monitoring of flowing pressures, plunger cycles, pump speeds, gas lift conditions and fluid levels
- Support growth production plans while minimizing impacts to base production
- Design and optimize artificial lift systems on new and existing wells
- Identify and support small facility projects to optimize well production
WORKOVERS
- Identify workover candidates through production data analysis and failure trends
- Prepare well programs and raise AFEs for execution
- Manage artificial lift installations; serve as the on-call engineer during execution
- Review post-workover results, optimize well performance, and document lessons learned for continuous improvement
OPERATING COSTS
- Understand area and well operating costs; focus on the controllable cost drivers
- Work within the team to improve operating costs through cost reduction or production improvement
FACILITIES
- Identify optimization opportunities in gathering systems and facilities to support base and growth production, work with Field Operations and Facilities Engineering on scope and execution plan
- Liaise with Facility Engineer for project design and cost control
Qualifications
- Self-starter, hard working with a strong production and completions background
- Facility experience is beneficial but not a requirement
- Good communication skills and works well in a team environment
