Original job description

Whitemud Resources Inc. operates a world-class metakaolin manufacturing facility in southern

Saskatchewan, supplying consistent, high-quality, and cost-competitive supplementary cementing

material to the cementitious and concrete industries. Leveraging proven kaolin clay reserves and a

patented dry manufacturing process, the company is positioned as a leading provider of high performing,

environmentally responsible metakaolin across North America.

Role Description

The Mine Planning & Quarry Operations Manager is a dual-focus leadership role responsible for

both the technical design and day-to-day operational execution of our open-pit quarry. You will

develop short-, medium-, and long-term mine extraction plans while directly overseeing quarry

operations, heavy equipment utilization, and workforce safety. A key focus is ensuring strict

compliance with Saskatchewan mining regulations and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Mine Planning & Engineering

  • Design and Schedule: Develop 0–12 month short-range and long-term extraction plans using mine planning software (e.g., Carlson Surface, K-Mine, OpenContour).
  • Pit Optimization: Define optimal pit walls, catch benches, ramp designs, and waste dump locations.
  • Drill & Blast Engineering: Create pattern layouts to optimize fragmentation, maximize yield, and reduce dilution.
  • Material Reconciliation: Conduct weekly planned-versus-actual reconciliations for hauled volumes and grades.
  • Stockpile Management: Design blending strategies to ensure a consistent, high-quality feed to the crushing plant.

2. Site Operations & Team Management

  • Daily Supervision: Lead, mentor, and schedule pit crews, heavy equipment operators, and subcontractors.
  • Production Targets: Manage daily load-and-haul operations to achieve volume quotas and budget KPIs.
  • Asset Management: Coordinate with the maintenance team to maximize the mechanical availability of fleet vehicles.
  • Civil Infrastructure: Oversee the construction and upkeep of pit access roads, water dewatering systems, and sumps.

3. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Regulatory Alignment: Enforce compliance with The Mines Regulations, 2018 under the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
  • Safety Culture: Lead daily toolbox talks, conduct field risk assessments, and investigate safety incidents.
  • Permit Maintenance: Manage site water discharge, dust control plans, and progressive reclamation boundaries.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Surface Mine Certificate.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driving abstract.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in open-pit mining or aggregate quarry operations.
  • Hands-on mastery of 3D mining software packages alongside advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage hourly workforces and external contractors under demanding conditions.
  • Ability to work outside in Southern Saskatchewan's extreme climate variations
