Original job description

Wildstone is hiring a full-time, site-based National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) to lead day-to-day health and safety on our active construction project in Fort St. John, BC, and we’re looking for someone local to the area. You will be on site for the full shift, 10 hours per day, enforcing safety standards, preventing incidents, and keeping the project compliant with all applicable regulations and client requirements.

This is a hands-on role for a safety professional who wants to be where the work happens. Each day you will walk the site, spot hazards before they become incidents, and stop work immediately when there is imminent danger. You will lead orientations and toolbox talks, coach crews and supervisors, investigate incidents to find root causes, and keep safety records and permits audit-ready, using firm, respectful communication that corrects unsafe behaviour and earns trust.

Responsibilities:

Site safety and compliance

  • Enforce compliance with federal and provincial occupational health and safety legislation, company policies, and client requirements
  • Monitor high-risk work: working at heights, excavation and trenching, confined spaces, hot work, lockout/tagout, crane and lifting operations, and traffic control

Planning and documentation

  • Develop, review, and maintain site-specific safety plans, hazard assessments, and safe work procedures
  • Review subcontractor safety programs and confirm worker orientations, certifications, and training are current
  • Track corrective actions and report safety metrics to project management

Incident management

  • Respond to injuries, near misses, and incidents, providing first aid or coordinating emergency response as needed

Additional responsibilities

  • Promote a culture where every worker feels empowered to raise concerns and stop unsafe work
  • Support the company's safety management system, including COR certification and internal and external audits
  • Coordinate site emergency response plans and drills
  • Verify PPE, fall protection, and safety equipment are inspected, available, and used correctly

Requirements:

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation, in good standing
  • 5 years of experience in a construction health and safety role on commercial, industrial, or civil projects
  • WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid Certificate or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of applicable OHS legislation and regulations in BC
  • Fall protection, confined space, and WHMIS certifications, or the ability to obtain them within 30 days
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to site

What you can expect at Wildstone:

  • A culture of collaboration, inclusion and understanding
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Employee and Family Assistance Program
  • RRSP Matching Program
