Assistant Controller
North York, ON, Canada – 5 days per week in the North York office (some flexibility)
$1300,000-$140,000 base plus bonus and excellent benefits
This growing real estate company in Toronto is looking for a new Assistant Controller.
Our client is a well-capitalized company with a great name in the real estate industry located in the GTA. This role is pivotal for the financial operations of the business and will supervise three individuals. The Assistant Controller will handle a wide array of duties specific to accounting and finance.
A key role in the company’s finance team, the Assistant Controller will report to the VP Finance and will be responsible for performing corporate finance and accounting duties. This will include month-end close process, year-end audit process coordination, developing new financial reports and assisting with corporate level budgeting and forecasting. The company has had tremendous growth over the past five years and will continue to grow. Individuals must come with some experience in a small to mid-sized accounting firm. Bonus points if you have some tax experience.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the monthly financial close and preparation of the monthly management financial presentation
- Handle the year-end close dealing directly with the external tax accountants and auditors
- Own portfolio metrics presentation / process, working with Asset Management and other departments on a consolidated view of the portfolio.
- Monitor cash flow movement monthly which includes regular reforecasting, monitoring of $CAD / $USD account balances and making recommendations on short-term investments.
- Own corporate consolidation including acting as primary contact for auditors and tax consultants.
- Maintain established audit systems and procedures, oversee audit working papers and schedules and resolve any audit issues efficiently.
- Review / oversee work performed by Project Accountant and Accounts Payable clerk and provide mentorship to them.
- Assist with project distributions including determining the amount to distribute.
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget for corporate entities.
- Complete variance analysis for forecasts prepared.
- Perform special projects and ad hoc reporting as required.
- Continuously look for efficiency in processes, tools and reports and make suggestions to implement into our framework.
Requirements:
- Degree or diploma plus a CPA professional accounting designation.
- 5+ years of progressive work experience in accounting or auditing.
- Self-motivated and adaptable to a changing and fast paced corporate environment managing multiple competing deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Team player, willing to always support the team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail and an open attitude towards learning.
- Computer literate including strong Excel skills and ability to adapt to and learn software.
