We develop smart solutions that anticipate the needs of our customers and partners, addressing their challenges with cutting-edge technology. At Zebra, you are seen, heard, valued, and respected. Our diverse perspectives fuel collaboration as we push boundaries to redefine the future of work for organizations, their employees, and those they serve. We offer a forward-thinking environment where you can learn, lead, and shape a fulfilling career while contributing to causes that matter locally and globally. Join us to make an impact every day.

About The Role

We are seeking a Data & AI Engineer responsible for understanding client technical requirements and designing and building data pipelines that support those needs. This role involves not only developing solutions but also overseeing the work of other engineers. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with clients and internal teams. A solid understanding of databases, SQL, cloud technologies, and modern data integration and orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), Informatica, and Airflow is essential for success.

The Data & AI Engineer will play a critical role in designing and implementing data platforms for AI products, developing parameterized data pipelines leveraging GPUs and CPUs, and building workflows to automate these pipelines. The position requires hands-on experience with Spark (Python and Scala), Dask, and Python-based automation tools like Argo. Additionally, the engineer will develop data validation tests, conduct performance testing and profiling, and optimize customer data science workloads while managing cloud service costs and utilization. This role is based in Mississauga, Canada, with a hybrid work model (3 days in office, 2 days remote).

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year programming experience in at least one language such as Python, Scala, or Go.
At least 1 year of experience in SQL and data transformation.
Experience developing distributed systems using open-source technologies like Spark.
Experience in building agents with comprehensive understanding of ontology and data security.
Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) in Linux environments.
Preferred experience with Azure or Google Cloud Platform environments.
Preferred knowledge of data models in Retail and Consumer Products industries.
Familiarity with agile project methodologies and concepts.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new technologies independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially for technical communication.
Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Design and implement data platforms supporting AI products.
Develop productized and parameterized data pipelines leveraging GPUs and CPUs.
Write efficient data transformation code using Spark (Python and Scala) and Dask.
Build automated workflows for data pipelines using Python and Argo.
Create and maintain data validation tests to ensure input data quality.
Conduct performance testing and profiling using various tools and techniques.
Develop frameworks to automate high-volume and real-time data delivery for the data hub.
Operationalize scalable data pipelines to support data science and advanced analytics.
Optimize customer data science workloads and manage cloud service costs and utilization.
Oversee development activities of other engineers on the team.
Communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to align on technical requirements and progress.

Benefits

Competitive base salary with annual pay range from $67,120 to $100,680 CAD.
Performance-based annual cash incentive target of 5% of base pay.
Comprehensive and competitive benefits program including healthcare and wellness offerings.
Access to inclusion networks and continued learning and development opportunities.
Community service days in addition to traditional insurance, parental leave, employee assistance program, and paid time off (benefits vary by country).
Hybrid work environment supporting work-life balance.

Equal Opportunity

Zebra is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other basis prohibited by law. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities throughout the application and employment process.
