About The Role
The Data Analyst, Reporting is a critical role within Torys, responsible for delivering precise financial and business reports that support strategic decision-making. This position involves translating complex stakeholder requirements into clear, actionable reports, dashboards, and recurring deliverables that facilitate insight-driven management. The role requires a high level of analytical capability, technical proficiency, and the ability to communicate findings effectively across various organizational levels. The Data Analyst will collaborate closely with legal teams, business services, and management to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of reports that influence operational and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; equivalent experience accepted
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within a professional services environment
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and advanced functions
- Working knowledge of SQL and Power Query in Excel
- Experience with Power BI Desktop, MDX, and DAX is an asset
- Experience extracting data from complex accounting systems; familiarity with 3E is advantageous
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
- Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive financial and non-financial reports and dashboards tailored to client, management, and business needs
- Support enhancements to the firm’s reporting capabilities by evaluating and implementing appropriate tools and methodologies
- Prepare data from diverse sources for analysis and reporting using Excel, Power BI, and other business intelligence platforms
- Interpret complex financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable insights to stakeholders
- Translate stakeholder objectives into clear, accurate, and timely reporting deliverables
- Validate and reconcile reports, dashboards, and underlying data, resolving discrepancies proactively
- Compile client reporting packages, including quarterly and annual presentations, financial templates, and ad hoc requests
- Develop matter management reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Advise legal professionals and Business Services teams on reporting requirements, deliverables, and data interpretation
- Provide analytical support during peak periods, absences, and evolving business needs
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data sources, reporting processes, and calculations
- Review reports and analyses prepared by colleagues to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper interpretation
- Contribute to firm projects and initiatives by providing financial data, reporting, and analytical support
