The School of Computing Science is among the top computer science departments in Canada and internationally, with excellent research and teaching programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. SFU is located in Metro Vancouver, which is rated one of the most livable areas in North America. The School of Computing Science offers programs at two campuses, in Burnaby and Surrey. SFU provides competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a collegial and vibrant work environment.
Lecturers are considered an integral part of the School, and they contribute to its academic mission of teaching and preparing computer science students for competitive industrial careers and advanced graduate studies. Lecturers fully participate in the administration of the School and have voting rights similar to those of tenure-track faculty on all School and University issues. Analogous to tenure-track faculty, Lecturers can be promoted to Senior Lecturer and University Lecturer (equivalent to Full Teaching Professor) ranks, and they can apply for partially/fully paid study leaves for career advancement and professional development.
The Responsibilities Of Teaching Faculty Include The Following
■ Teach and develop university courses. The School has teaching needs in Software Engineering, Systems Programming, Software Testing, and Data Structures, with focus on integrating AI into our curriculum.
■ Supervision of capstone projects

- Academic integrity and student conduct
- Student recruitment and community outreach
- Experiential learning and capstone project coordination
- Curriculum development

- Student liaison
■ A post-graduate degree in computing science or a related discipline (PhD or Master’s).
■ Academic and/or industrial experience of teaching and developing courses mentioned above.
■ Excellent communication, leadership, and group management skills.
■ Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association. A reasonable estimate of the salary range at the Lecturer rank is $98,340 – $119,241 (subject to experience and inclusive of Market Differential).
