Original job description

Are you passionate about promoting workplace safety and helping prevent injuries before they happen? Do you thrive on creating safe, compliant, and resilient workplaces?

We’re looking for a Workplace Safety Coordinator to support and coordinate workplace health and safety initiatives across our diverse portfolio. In this role, you’ll help ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, support the implementation of corporate OHS programs, and promote a proactive safety culture. You’ll contribute to hazard identification, workplace inspections, incident prevention, safety training, and emergency preparedness.

You’ll work closely with internal teams, external contractors, and consultants to identify workplace hazards, implement practical control measures, and support safe work practices. Leveraging your knowledge of OHS legislation, safety programs, and hazard assessment, you’ll help reduce workplace risks, protect employees, and maintain safe and compliant operations.

How you’ll make a difference: You’ll help create a sustainable workplace that allows people to thrive.

This is a temporary role for 12 months

Working at WorkSafeBC

We serve the workers and employers across B.C., and we do that best when we're together. It's how we collaborate, learn from one another, and develop our people.

This role is based in our five days a week.

Like everything we do, our work model continues to evolve to support those we serve. We remain committed to a work model that strengthens our culture and helps us deliver our best work, while balancing flexibility and a positive employee experience.

Lead comprehensive risk assessments across operational, financial, reputational, health, safety, and environmental areas, partnering with senior management to develop mitigation strategies.
Design and implement emergency preparedness programs, including response plans, staff exercises, and service recovery strategies to minimize operational disruptions.
Develop and oversee compliance programs for permits, inspections, hazardous materials, and workplace safety in alignment with corporate strategies and regulatory requirements.
Analyze compliance data, interpret trends, and recommend actionable measures to reduce risks and improve resilience.
Educate and empower teams through training on safety regulations, prime contractor responsibilities, and risk management best practices.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage hazardous materials, coordinate consultants, and ensure environmental responsibility.
Conduct site visits across the province as needed, with occasional overnight travel.
Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

We’re Looking For Someone Who

Is strategic and proactive, anticipating risks and implementing preventive measures before issues arise.
Thrives in collaborative, in-person environments, building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Is passionate about safety and compliance, committed to creating workplaces where people can operate confidently and securely.
Excels at problem-solving under pressure, using data-driven analysis to develop practical, effective solutions.
Is adaptable and resilient, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a forward-thinking approach to risk management.

Your Background And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience in risk management, program development, or project coordination.
Strong knowledge of risk management principles, strategies, and techniques, as well as OHSR/WHMIS regulations and programs.
