Original job description

About our client: Sytek Enterprises

From medical devices and robotics to electronic musical instruments, Sytek designs and manufactures the custom electronic interfaces and printed electronics that connect people with technology. Based in North Vancouver and serving customers around the world, our small, multidisciplinary team combines engineering expertise, creative problem-solving and hands-on manufacturing. We offer the close working relationships and variety of a smaller business, alongside the reach of an international company. At Sytek, you’ll work alongside the people behind the products, get to know the business beyond your own role and see the impact of your contribution.

Ready to take the next step in your accounting career?

We’re looking for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys understanding how a business works, solving problems and finding better ways to get things done.

You enjoy taking ownership of your work, collaborating with others and learning how your accounting expertise can support a business. We value strong accounting fundamentals, curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn, along with an interest in using technology to make everyday processes better.

The opportunity

As our sole internal accounting professional, you’ll manage day-to-day accounting and work directly with management, operational colleagues and external accounting advisors. This is a hands-on role with no direct reports.

You’ll build your understanding of our products, costs and operations, with room to grow into broader financial responsibilities as your experience develops. If you enjoy technology implementation and improving how information flows through a business, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to our updated ERP system and accounting processes.

What you’ll do

  • Manage day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations and cash flow.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements and reporting, and coordinate year-end requirements with external accountants.
  • Coordinate payroll, related reconciliations and Canadian tax and government reporting requirements.
  • Monitor inventory and manufacturing costs, helping ensure costs are accurately recorded and allocated.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and analysis to help management understand performance and make decisions.
  • Help improve financial reporting and accounting processes during our ERP transition, working with operational colleagues and external implementation consultants.

Over time, there is also room to contribute to pricing, profitability analysis and practical cost-saving initiatives.

What you’ll bring

  • Practical accounting experience, including involvement in month-end reporting and financial statements.
  • Familiarity with Canadian accounting, tax and payroll requirements, and the judgment to research questions or seek specialist advice.
  • Confidence using Excel and accounting software, with an interest in learning new systems.
  • An organized approach, attention to detail and the ability to follow through independently.
  • Clear communication and a collaborative, adaptable attitude.
  • CPA designation or progress towards one is an asset.

Experience with manufacturing, inventory, costing or ERP systems would also be helpful. You do not need to arrive knowing every aspect of our business or having used our specific software.

Why join Sytek?

  • Gain broad accounting experience and work directly with decision-makers.
  • Help improve systems and processes in a business where your contribution is visible.
  • Learn about innovative products and the manufacturing operations behind them.
  • Grow your responsibilities as your confidence and capabilities develop.
  • Base salary of $75k-$100k
  • Health Benefits
  • RRSP Matching
  • Paid vacation

The role is based in North Vancouver, with more time in the office expected during the initial transition and learning period. Flexibility and remote work can be discussed based on the role’s requirements.

Interested?

Send your resume and a brief introduction outlining your accounting experience and what interests you about the opportunity.

If you have a solid accounting foundation, enjoy learning and feel ready for a step up, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every preferred qualification.

Sytek welcomes applications from all qualified candidates. Accommodation is available throughout the hiring process. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
