Original job description

About us

Worley is a global company of energy, chemicals and resources experts headquartered in Australia. We partner with our customers to deliver projects and create value across the life of their assets. We specialize in consulting, engineering, procurement and construction across the project lifecycle, with services extending through to operations and decommissioning. Leveraging extensive experience and AI-enabled delivery, we support customers in navigating complexity as they meet today's needs and transition to more sustainable solutions.

Worley Canada Construction is a leader in industrial construction in Alberta and western Canada. Our employees enjoy exciting careers in fabrication, modularization, field installation, and professional support services for some of world's most challenging heavy-oil facilities, gas plants, power-stations and other industrial projects.

We’re seeking an experienced Labour and Employee Relations Specialist to join our growing People Team in our Edmonton, Alberta office.

The Labour and Employee Relations Specialist works closely with field supervisors and line managers on performance management, employee relations issues and investigations while also providing support with pre-job, grievance and collective bargaining activities for our CLAC entity. The successful candidate will have experience working within a CLAC environment and a solid understanding of collective bargaining agreements and applicable employment legislation.

What We Offer You:

Every Friday afternoon OFF (40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 8.75 hours per day, Friday 5 hour day).
RRSP matching program of up to 5% from day one.
FREE benefits from day one, including generous paramedical, dental and vision benefits.
Both a health spending and wellness account.
Mental health and wellness support, including Employee Assistance Programs.
Generous paid vacation and sick time.
Opportunity to grow your career and be a part of some of world's most challenging heavy-oil facilities, gas plants, power-stations and other sustainable energy projects.

What You’ll Do:

Establish solid working relationships with field supervisors and managers.
Act as the primary advisor to operational leaders on labour relations issues, disciplinary matters, workforce concerns, and policy interpretation.
Develop and maintain productive working relationships with field leaders, construction managers, CLAC representatives and other labour stakeholders.
Investigate and resolve complex and sensitive employee relations issues.
Interpret and apply collective agreements, pre-job conference reports, site documentation, client requirements, and project-specific guidelines.
Resolve grievances, employee complaints and other workplace conflicts.
Gather and analyze relevant data including current market rates and labour costing information.
Support employee-related administrative activities, including resolving pay issues, conducting rate audits, and preparing employee correspondence such as notices and disciplinary action.
Assist with workforce planning and labour strategy initiatives for project and operational requirements.

Qualifications:

Must have previous experience working in a CLAC unionized environment.
Four years’ progressive experience in Human Resources, including Labour Relations.
Experience providing employee relations support in an industrial construction environment is preferred.
University degree or diploma is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Solid understanding of collective bargaining processes, grievance management, and labour relations best practices.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relations at all levels of the organization including adapting messaging to different audiences.
Comfortable in ambiguous, changing situations - able to learn quickly and exercise sound judgment in situations where data may be elusive.
Strong sense of urgency with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Ability to prioritize workload, manage projects and handle multiple responsibilities while meeting tight deadlines.
Outstanding negotiation and problem solving skills.
Occasional travel to project sites and operational locations may be required.
Ability to work flexible hours to support project and operational needs when necessary.
Highly proficient in MS Office, including Excel.

Moving forward together

We want our people to be energized and empowered to drive sustainable impact. So, our focus is on a values-inspired culture that unlocks brilliance through belonging, connection and innovation.

And we're not just talking about it; we're doing it. We're reskilling our people, leveraging transferable skills, and supporting the transition of our workforce to become experts in today's low carbon energy infrastructure and technology.
