Purpose

Chemetics Inc. (Worley Group) is a diversified technology company that provides design and engineering solutions to the chloralkaline, sodium chlorate, chlorine dioxide, and sulphuric acid industries worldwide. With a 60-year history in Vancouver, we are a company of diverse cultures, talents, and highly skilled professionals. We are located in the Broadway Technology Centre, an award-winning office complex that is easily accessible by SkyTrain or major highways. It is an exciting work environment with interesting and challenging projects, attractive compensation, opportunities for global travel, and flexible work arrangements.

We are currently recruiting for a Process Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Vancouver, British Columbia.

We are seeking an intermediate-level Process Engineer to join our team. This role is based in Vancouver and follows a hybrid work model, requiring two days per week in the office.

The process engineer will lead or work with other lead engineers on the process design for projects and proposals in accordance with design standards or “understood” acceptable practices.

We are seeking candidates with hands-on process engineering experience in electrochemical processes, including but not limited to chlor-alkali, sodium chlorate, and chlorine dioxide production. Experience in plant design, commissioning, troubleshooting, and providing technical support within industrial operating environments in these processes is considered a strong asset. Work is performed under guidance of the Process Engineering Manager. The process engineer may also provide guidance, supervision and mentoring of EITs or less experienced engineers on projects and proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.
  • Participate in the design of a process plant, including establishing process design basis, development of process options, and optimization of selected design.
  • Calculate and organize information for the process design including instrumentation and control considerations.
  • Direct the preparation of required documentation for assigned projects and proposals including development of PFD’s, P&ID’s and Process data sheets.
  • Ensure successful completion of the assigned project deliverables within the budgeted time and costs.
  • Maintain effective communication with project team members and with the customer to meet their needs.

Ideal Candidate

  • Direct experience in either chlor-alkali, sodium chlorate or chlorine dioxide technology preferred.
  • Brings practical experience in one or more of Worley Chemetics’ core technology areas.
  • Demonstrated experience with process plant improvement, start-up, and/or troubleshooting.
  • Can independently lead process design tasks while mentoring junior engineers.

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of applicable engineering experience required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Experience in design/operation at large industrial plants or through plant designs in the chlorine dioxide, chlor-alkali and/or sodium chlorate / chlorite industries.
  • Good communication (written and verbal), presentation and interpersonal skills required to engage directly with team and with clients.
  • Ability to work under tight timelines which require strong organization and time management skills required.
  • International travel will be required for project review meetings, commissioning, and technical services assignments. Travel durations requirements may be extended as needed.
  • Computer literate and will have experience using simulation software (e.g. ASPEN Plus preferred).

Required

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

  • Recognized Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in British Columbia is required, or eligibility to obtain P.Eng. registration in BC.

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $99,696 to $122,421

Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
