The Opportunity:

WSP is seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team in Prince George, BC. Your work will blend field assignments with office‑based analysis and design on a wide range of geotechnical projects throughout British Columbia and the Yukon. You’ll collaborate with technical experts, support major infrastructure initiatives, and contribute directly to our regional and northern project portfolio.

Why choose Prince George?

Prince George offers an exceptional balance of lifestyle, affordability, and professional opportunity as the northern capital of BC, with immediate access to outdoor recreation such as riverside walks at Cottonwood Island Park, mountain biking at Piderny, fishing at Shane Lake, cross‑country skiing at the Otway Nordic Centre, and downhill skiing at the Hart Highlands Winter Club - all without long lines or high costs. It is also home to the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), consistently ranked among Canada’s top universities, and for WSP employees, the location is further enhanced by our Northern Living Allowance for northern offices, including Prince George, making it a compelling place to live and work.

Your Impact

  • Lead and participate in field programs including borehole drilling, test pitting, in situ testing, instrumentation installation, and construction monitoring.
  • Analyze geotechnical and geological data to develop recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, pavements, and slope stability.
  • Prepare clear, defensible technical reports such as investigations, design briefs, and construction documentation.
  • Provide geotechnical input to multidisciplinary teams and support innovative, data driven solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff in field methods, analysis techniques, and safety practices.
  • Build strong client relationships through responsive, reliable engineering advice.
  • Support quality assurance processes, project coordination, and continuous improvement in geotechnical practice.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Geotechnical or Geological Engineer.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license.
  • Experience interpreting soil and rock conditions, laboratory data, and construction requirements.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Rocscience, or similar.
