The Opportunity Design What Comes Next
Join our Buildings M&E team as a Senior Electrical Engineer and help shape electrical solutions for diverse projects across Canada. Based in Thornhill/Markham (GTA), you’ll bring senior-level technical expertise to commercial buildings, retail environments, warehouses, tenant fit-outs, niche healthcare clinics, and specialty spaces.
Many assignments span multiple locations, giving you the opportunity to solve complex coordination challenges, apply consistent design standards across national programs, and collaborate closely with architects, landlords, contractors, clients, and multidisciplinary WSP teams.
This is an opportunity to combine hands-on electrical design with technical leadership, project coordination, and mentorship while delivering practical, innovative solutions for our clients.
Your Impact
- Lead electrical designs for power distribution, lighting, communications/IT, fire alarm, security/access control, emergency, and life-safety systems using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Develop and review single-line diagrams, panel schedules, load calculations, electrical distribution designs, and short-circuit and coordination studies, as applicable.
- Deliver lighting calculations, fixture and equipment selections, and layouts for power, lighting, emergency, and specialty electrical systems.
- Apply the OBC, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ASHRAE standards, and client-specific design requirements to develop coordinated, code-compliant solutions.
- Guide projects through construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, conducting site visits, and resolving design and coordination issues.
- Coordinate closely with Mechanical, Architectural, and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions across complex and multi-location projects.
- Champion technical quality through internal QA/QC processes, design reviews, and, where appropriate, the review and sealing of engineering drawings and other materials prepared by peers.
- Mentor and collaborate with engineers, designers, and draftspersons while maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- 10+ years of electrical design experience, with demonstrated experience delivering building electrical systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit, along with proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with lighting calculation tools and power-system analysis software is an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code, ASHRAE standards, and other applicable building and electrical requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and review electrical designs across power distribution, lighting, emergency/life-safety, communications, fire alarm, and security systems.
- Experience supporting construction administration, including RFIs, shop-drawing reviews, site visits, and coordination with contractors and consultants.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and providing technical guidance to engineers, designers, and draftspersons.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment while communicating technical information effectively with clients and project stakeholders.
