The Opportunity
Build the Future with Us – Join our Environmental Management team as a Principal Consultant - Environmental Acoustics in our Vancouver, BC office.
Bring your technical expertise, client relationships and consulting leadership to a role where you can help establish and grow environmental noise services within our BC/Yukon Air Quality team. You’ll combine hands-on technical leadership with client development, helping industrial, energy, mining, transportation, infrastructure and municipal clients assess and manage environmental noise, navigate approval requirements and develop practical mitigation strategies.
Working closely with the Air Quality Group Manager, you’ll identify opportunities, lead proposals, direct and deliver projects, and help develop local technical capability. You’ll build relationships with new and existing clients while collaborating with WSP’s regional noise and acoustics specialists and multidisciplinary project teams.
This role would suit an established principal or an experienced technical lead ready to take on broader responsibility for client development and service growth. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing environmental noise service offering, supported by WSP’s existing client relationships, multidisciplinary capabilities and experienced technical colleagues.
Your Impact
- Establish and grow our BC/Yukon environmental noise services, working with the Air Quality Group Manager to develop a focused growth plan, identify priority clients and sectors, and align technical resources with the developing workload.
- Develop client relationships and win new and repeat work, identifying client needs, pursuing opportunities, preparing scopes and fees, and leading proposals that build a sustainable portfolio of assignments.
- Lead and deliver environmental noise assessments, including baseline monitoring, source characterization, predictive modelling, receptor impact assessment and evaluation of mitigation options for construction and operations.
- Prepare and provide senior technical review of reports and regulatory submissions, ensuring assessment methods, assumptions, data quality, limitations and conclusions are clearly documented and defensible.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, explaining findings, supporting regulatory and stakeholder discussions, and developing practical responses to environmental noise concerns.
- Manage and direct projects from proposal through closeout, establishing realistic scopes, budgets, schedules and resource plans, monitoring financial performance, and addressing technical risks and scope changes early.
- Uphold WSP’s safety culture and Life Saving Rules, including during site visits, monitoring programs and other project activities.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- A degree in acoustical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, physics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of directly relevant experience in environmental noise assessment, including substantial consulting experience and increasing responsibility for technical leadership, client engagement and project delivery.
- A relevant professional designation, or eligibility to obtain one, is required. Engineering applicants must be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Demonstrated success winning new work or expanding existing client assignments, including identifying opportunities, developing scopes and fees, and leading proposals.
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental noise prediction and modelling using industry-standard software, with sound judgment regarding assessment methods, model inputs, assumptions, limitations and interpretation.
- Experience designing and interpreting environmental noise monitoring programs,
- Strong understanding of Canadian regulations, guidelines and approval requirements related to environmental noise, with experience supporting regulatory reviews and responding to technical comments.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects or multidisciplinary technical work packages, balancing technical quality, client expectations, budgets, schedules and resources.
- Strong technical writing, proposal-development and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex findings clearly to clients, regulators and other stakeholders.

Compensation
- AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $147,500 - $195,400
- MB & ON: $134,600 - $184,600
- NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $133,200 - $176,900
