The Opportunity
Design What Comes Next
Bring your mechanical engineering expertise to WSP’s Buildings M&E team and help shape spaces where people work, shop, receive care, and connect. You’ll contribute to diverse Canadian projects spanning commercial buildings, retail environments, warehouses, tenant fit-outs, niche healthcare clinics, and specialty spaces. Many assignments involve multi-location programs, offering exposure to national standards and coordination challenges that go beyond single-site work.
Working alongside architects, landlords, contractors, and multidisciplinary colleagues, you’ll turn technical requirements into practical, coordinated solutions while helping projects move effectively from design through construction.
Your Impact
- Design mechanical building systems, preparing drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Develop heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selections, and coordinated ductwork, piping, and sprinkler head layouts.
- Apply OBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, client standards, and other applicable requirements to deliver technically sound designs.
- Support projects through construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting site visits.
- Coordinate with electrical designers and other disciplines to create integrated building solutions.
- Strengthen design quality by participating in internal QA/QC processes and technical reviews, including reviewing and sealing peer-prepared materials where appropriate.
- Collaborate directly with clients, project stakeholders, architects, landlords, and contractors while managing multiple assignments in a fast-track environment.
The Skills That Set You Apart
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and licensure as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.).
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design.
- Proficiency in Revit, with the ability to use it effectively on multidisciplinary building projects.
- Experience with HVAC calculation tools such as HAP, including heating and cooling load calculations and equipment selection.
- Strong working knowledge of OBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, and other applicable mechanical building codes and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly in client-facing and multidisciplinary project environments.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and deliver across multiple fast-paced assignments.
- Experience coordinating project teams and draftspersons is an asset.
