ROLE DESCRIPTION
Xiphos, a leading electronics system provider for the “new space” and small satellite markets, is seeking an experienced and product-focused Hardware Engineering Team Lead to lead our dynamic hardware development team. This critical role offers the opportunity to shape the development of low SWaP sub-system flight hardware.

MAIN TASKS
Team Leadership
- Inspire, mentor, and guide a skilled team of hardware engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation
- Actively build the team’s skills and capabilities to take on complex work
- Assign, monitor, and review work across multiple simultaneous projects
- Manage deadlines, priorities and deliveries within a fast paced environment
- Manage subcontractors and external resources where required
Product Development and Ownership
- Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality electronic systems designed for space flight, ensuring alignment with customer needs and company objectives.
- Collaborate with customers to develop project requirements and obtain/ensure agreement on design approach and implementation
- Architect, design, develop, and document hardware for spacecraft payloads
- Working with Product Owners, help define/anticipate customer needs and develop solutions which widen Xiphos’ portfolio and presence in the flight hardware market
Processes
- Work closely with project managers to plan work execution across multiple mandates, with a focus on achieving results over rigid adherence to processes
- Build and maintain a robust product documentation
- Ensure compliance with external (customer) processes and requirements
- Champion cross-disciplinary collaboration, working closely with software, FPGA, test engineering, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless product integration and delivery
- Support the development of tools and processes to enhance data-driven decision-making across the company, from sales engineering to manufacturing
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or Master’s in Electrical Engineering
- Proven leadership experience (7+ years) in hardware engineering, with a focus on embedded systems
- Familiarity with Xilinx FPGA-based systems is a significant asset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to align teams and stakeholders on technical and strategic goals
- Must be able to obtain Canadian government security clearance (Canadian Controlled Goods Program)
- An open, problem solving and team driven mindset
- Autonomous on allocated tasks yet communicative for team / customer critical decisions
- Ability to exchange with our customers in a proactive manner and work with them to deliver solutions
- Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQURED
- Industry experience in one or more of the following fields:
- Launch Vehicle and Spacecraft Avionics;
- High reliability electronics;
- Aircraft Avionics; or
- Uninhabited Vehicle Systems (Air, Ground, Surface).
- Software Define Radio (SDR)
- RF data converters
- RF front-end
- Digital system development
- FPGA based
- Memory interfaces: DDR, SSD, Flash based devices, etc.
- Data transfer interfaces: Ethernet, USB, I2C, SPI, etc.
- Applying industry standards
- IPC, MIL STD, NASA, ECSS, JEDEC, etc.
NICE TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE OF
- FPGA VHDL and/or Verilog development
- Simulation tools such as Hyperlynx, LTSpice, etc.
- JIRA, Confluence, Gitlab
