Summary
The Transportation Manager will lead the development of the business line in a dynamic and profitable manner based on core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service. The Transportation Manager will manage all aspects of transportation management/projects for customers from driver management, staffing plan development; risk identification and management; project oversight; quality management; and fleet management. The Transportation Manager will coordinate closely with the Director and Leadership Team to help set strategic goals for the region.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safe, reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set-up, minimize turnover and maximize ongoing productivity.
- Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements, including managing exceptions on that freight and driver ETA adjustments based on pick-up and delivery schedules, and other environmental factors on the road.
- Maintain the Company's safety culture to include daily driver safety messages, monthly driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, annual reviews, and enforce company policies to ensure compliance and company safety requirements are being met.
- Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing and/or planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay related issues, etc. as they occur throughout the day and, where necessary, when on call.
- Maintain a properly staffed and trained department that offers the highest levels of logistics support to the warehouse.
- Drive key performance indicators for cost savings.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all delivery and backhaul activities.
- Efficiently utilize manpower via proper scheduling and training to provide the highest levels of customer service at the store level.
- Assist with providing 24-hour coverage when applicable.
- Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and on special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
- Plans, coordinates, communicates, and facilitates activities of several disciplines on projects of all sizes from conception through completion. Successful completion of projects by collaborating and coordinating with internal and external clients.
- Oversee the daily operations of your accounts to ensure appointments are scheduled, shipments are tracked, and all parties receive proper communication in a timely manner.

- Effectively communicate with customers and drivers.
- Ability to travel to customer location(s) if / when needed.
Safety:
- Observe and follow health and safety regulations.
- Enforces operating instructions and safety policies.
- Assist management in establishing warehouse standards and procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of safety incidents.
- Assign designated safety personnel.
- Maintain warehouse in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience with all facets of dedicated transportation;
- Knowledge of distribution systems, including routing and backhaul/transfer procedures.
- Ability to identify financial issues and provide cost-effective solutions.
- Experience managing large numbers of driving staff; experience with hiring, training, and motivating teammates and resolving employee relations issues.
- Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Access).
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision or guidance.
- Strong attention to details, accuracy and accomplish job tasks in a timely manner.
- Effectively adapt to change and thrive in a stimulating, fast-paced work environment.
