Original job description

About York

At York, we are bold, fast, and relentlessly focused on what matters: our clients.

While others get lost in bureaucracy and outdated thinking, we cut through the noise. We challenge the status quo, move with urgency, and make decisions that serve our clients, not just our bottom line. We take full ownership, work together to solve complicated problems, and execute - no excuses, no shortcuts.

This is not the place for complacency. Our team thrives in a high-performance, no-BS environment - we are a group of high performers who think critically, move fast, and follow through. The success of our business depends on the willingness of our team to ditch antiquated ways of operating and adapt new methods for achieving excellent results.

This is how we work. This is how we win.

Reports to: Senior Accounts Payable Specialist

Job Summary

The Accounts Payable Specialist supports York Construction’s high-volume accounts payable function as part of York’s Shared Services team. Vendor Relations and Billing Inbox

Manage the York Construction AP billing inbox: triage, tag, route and follow up on incoming correspondence

Act as the main point of contact for vendor payment inquiries, providing approximate payment dates based on the payment release list and available funding

Resolve vendor disputes, short pays, holdback questions and statement queries

Invoice Processing

Upload invoices to Yardi and assist with invoice coding

Prepare and coordinate cheque, online and EFT payments

Flag invoice compliance issues to the AP team, including missing backup, missing commitments or POs, and incorrect billing entity

Liaise with project managers and internal stakeholders to support timely approval and payment of invoices

Reconciliation

Reconcile vendor statements to Yardi and resolve missing invoices, duplicates and unapplied credits

Find and use accounting data to resolve discrepancies

Additional Responsibilities

Corporate credit card reconciliation

Vendor setups

Cross-coverage for York Realty accounts payable during vacations and month-end

Assist with month-end procedures as required

Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Senior AP Specialist and Controller

What you bring to York:

Diploma or degree in accounting or finance preferred

3-5 years of direct experience in a high-volume accounts payable role

Construction accounts payable experience preferred, including commitments, progress billings and holdback

Experience using Yardi preferred

Proficient with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel

Confident, professional communicator, comfortable handling difficult vendor conversations, including overdue balances when funding is limited

Extremely high level of detail and accuracy

Strong organizational and time management skills, with a sense of urgency and the ability to manage multiple priorities

Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team

Ability to remain objective and factual when handling questions and inquiries
