Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer

About the Role

As a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer in our US Retirement technology organization, you will design, build, and ship high-quality mobile and backend solutions that serve our Retirement customers. You will work across the entire stack, building React Native mobile applications and NestJS backend services while contributing to architectural decisions and raising the engineering bar for the team. You will partner closely with Product Owners, UX Designers, architects, and fellow engineers to deliver impactful digital experiences.

Position Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain full stack features spanning React Native mobile apps and NestJS backend services
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design, including API contracts, data modeling, caching strategies, and service decomposition
• Write clean, well-tested, production-ready TypeScript across mobile and server codebases
• Build performant, accessible mobile experiences using React Native, Expo, React Query, and Uniwind
• Develop and maintain backend services using NestJS with Fastify, integrating with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Redis
• Participate in architecture reviews, propose technical solutions, and document design decisions
• Improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring fast and reliable deployments
• Instrument applications for observability using New Relic, proactively identifying and resolving performance issues
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with product and design partners to translate requirements into well-architected technical solutions

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in full stack development
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript across both frontend and backend
• Hands-on experience with React Native and the Expo ecosystem
• Experience with state management and data fetching using React Query (TanStack Query)
• Backend development experience with Node.js (experience with NestJS is a plus)
• Working knowledge of Redis for caching, queues, or session management
• Experience with Azure cloud services, including deploying to AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service)

Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Contribute to and drive architectural decisions for mobile and backend systems
• Design scalable APIs and services that handle evolving business requirements
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks
• Create and maintain technical documentation including ADRs (Architecture Decision Records)

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with utility-first CSS frameworks (Tailwind/Uniwind)
• Experience with mobile app security and secure storage
• Knowledge of Kubernetes networking, Istio, or service mesh patterns
• Experience with event-driven architectures or message queues
• Contributions to open-source projects
