Location: Scarborough, Ontario
Employment: Full-time; on-site when not travelling
Travel: Approximately 30%–50%, primarily within the United States
Compensation: CAD $100,000–$120,000 base salary, plus commission
About the Role
Absolute Gauge Technologies (AGT), formerly A-Tech Instruments Ltd. and Physicom Corp., is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Outside Technical Sales Representative to expand our business across key U.S. industrial markets.
This newly created position will initially be responsible for building an open U.S. territory, most likely California, Texas, or the Carolinas. The role combines new-customer development with expansion of AGT’s established customer base. The successful candidate will identify new applications, deepen relationships across customer plants and departments, and turn initial projects into long-term business.
This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role with the potential to grow into broader U.S. sales and channel leadership. AGT currently works with six established, self-sufficient representative firms covering the Midwest through the East Coast, collectively comprising more than 15 sales professionals. A candidate who demonstrates strong sales results, technical excellence, independence, and leadership may take on increasing responsibility for coordinating and ultimately managing this network, including performance expectations, territory assignments, agreements, recruitment, training, and channel expansion.
This progression is based on performance, demonstrated understanding of AGT’s solutions, leadership capability, relevant experience, and business growth. It is not tied to a predetermined timeline.
We are looking for an independent-minded technical sales professional who understands manufacturing environments and is comfortable working directly with customers on the factory floor. Success requires initiative, persistence, technical curiosity, disciplined follow-up, and ownership of results.
The position reports directly to Tim Wilkinson and is supported by AGT’s technical, engineering, inside sales, service, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development and Account Growth
- Build and execute a development plan for an assigned U.S. territory
- Prospect, qualify, and pursue new industrial customers, projects, and applications
- Expand established accounts across additional applications, departments, plants, product groups, and business units
- Build relationships with engineering, quality, production, maintenance, operations, purchasing, and management teams
- Manage opportunities from initial contact through technical review, quotation, negotiation, and order close
- Maintain an active pipeline and provide consistent follow-up throughout long industrial sales cycles
- Develop strategic account plans and pursue multi-site growth opportunities
- Achieve agreed sales, pipeline, account-development, and growth objectives
- Technical and Consultative Selling
- Visit manufacturing, research, and engineering facilities to assess applications and recommend technical solutions
- Walk customer production floors and identify measurement, automation, quality-control, testing, and assembly opportunities
- Ask effective technical and commercial questions to understand requirements, challenges, budgets, and decision-making processes
- Conduct product demonstrations, technical presentations, application reviews, and proof-of-concept discussions
- Prepare and follow up on quotations, proposals, and technical recommendations
- Coordinate internal resources to deliver successful customer outcomes
- Develop strong knowledge of AGT’s products, capabilities, markets, and applications
- Representative and Distributor Leadership
- After demonstrating the required technical, commercial, and leadership capabilities, the successful candidate may assume increasing responsibility for:
- Coordinating and supporting AGT’s representative firms and sub-distributors
- Building a cohesive team relationship with more than 15 external sales professionals
- Establishing sales objectives, performance expectations, and territory priorities
- Reviewing pipelines, forecasts, opportunities, and account-development activities
- Supporting representatives through joint visits, application reviews, training, and sales strategy
- Coaching representatives while respecting the independence of successful firms
- Evaluating performance and territory coverage
- Participating in representative agreements and territory-assignment decisions
- Recruiting, onboarding, and developing new representatives and sub-distributors
- Expanding AGT’s channel coverage into additional U.S. markets
Territory Management
Independently plan customer visits, travel schedules, prospecting, and follow-up activities
Maintain accurate customer, opportunity, quotation, and forecast information
Use office time effectively to prospect, plan visits, prepare proposals, and advance opportunities
Report on pipeline activity, customer needs, competitive developments, and market opportunities
Represent AGT professionally at customer sites, trade shows, and industry events
Support growth across automotive, medical device, electronics, aerospace, research, power generation, and general manufacturing markets
Travel approximately 30%–50% of the time and work on-site at AGT’s Scarborough office when not travelling
