Conventional Machinist – Polyurethane Manufacturing

Position Overview
The conventional machinist is responsible for day-to-day production on the shop floor while coordinating people, planning, and processes.
Approximately 65% of the role is hands-on production work and 35% is office/management (planning, organizing, supervision, communication).
You will work directly with the owner and the production team to ensure orders are produced safely, on time, and to specification, while helping to improve methods and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate conventional/manual machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, drill presses, band saws, grinders, and related shop equipment.
- Machine parts, tooling, molds, fixtures, shafts, plates, bushings, inserts, and repair components to drawing specifications or approved samples.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, dimensions, tolerances, material requirements, and work orders.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, feeds, workholding methods, and machining sequences.
- Measure and verify finished work using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, thread gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Perform basic layout work, drilling, tapping, boring, facing, turning, milling, threading, and deburring.
- Modify, repair, and maintain production tooling and equipment as required.
- Work with production, engineering, and operations personnel to clarify requirements and improve manufacturability.
- Maintain organized work areas, machine cleanliness, tooling, and material storage.
- Follow company quality standards, safe-work procedures, and all applicable health and safety requirements.
- Report material, tooling, equipment, drawing, or quality issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Assist with general fabrication, assembly, and shop-support work when required.
Required Profile
- Experience as a conventional/manual machinist, toolmaker, maintenance machinist, or similar role.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment, including vernier calipers and micrometers.
- Strong ability to set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines independently.
- Hands-on experience on the shop floor (manufacturing, machining, molding, plastics, rubber, or polyurethane is an asset).
- Strong sense of organization and priority management in a small team environment.
- Ability to lead by example, communicate clearly, and maintain a positive, respectful work climate.
- Ability to machine common materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and industrial plastics.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly wage: 22-27$/hour, depending on experience and skills
- Daily punctuality bonus: 10 $ per day for being on time and respecting the work schedule.

Work Schedule and Environment
- Full-time, daytime schedule (weekdays), with occasional overtime depending on workload.
- Shop-floor and office work in a small team of about 7 employees, where your decisions have a direct impact on daily operations and customer satisfaction.
