Job Description
Reporting to the Team Lead, Business Analysts, we are seeking a motivated Business Analyst with relevant experience or interest in the electrical utility sector to become an integrated member of the AESO team.
In this role, you'll work closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs, document clear requirements, support solution delivery, and contribute to AESO's business analysis practice. You'll play an important role in the design, configuration, and delivery of sustainable, best-fit solutions that enable business value across the organization.
What You'll Do
- Support business analysis activities across AESO initiatives while building knowledge of the organization, its processes, and systems.
- Gather, document, validate, and maintain business, stakeholder, functional, and non-functional requirements.
- Assist with analysis of business processes, systems, and data, including documenting current-state and future-state workflows.
- Facilitate or support stakeholder interviews, workshops, and working sessions.
- Collaborate with business, technology, vendor, and cross-functional teams to clarify needs, identify issues, and support solution decisions.
- Support solution design, testing, implementation, and adoption by preparing analysis deliverables and assisting with issue resolution.
- Apply established business analysis tools, templates, and techniques, while contributing to consistent business analysis practices.
- Identify and communicate requirements gaps, dependencies, assumptions, risks, and decisions in a timely manner.
- Participate in agile team activities and pursue ongoing learning in AESO operations, the electrical utility sector, and business analysis practices.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in business analysis or a related role, with experience in the electrical utility industry.
- Practical experience gathering and documenting requirements, mapping processes, conducting analysis, and supporting solution delivery.
- Working knowledge of business analysis techniques, including stakeholder analysis, process modelling, use cases, user stories, acceptance criteria, and requirements traceability.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with business and technology teams in a project, product, or operational environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Visio, or similar collaboration and modelling tools is considered an asset.
- Experience with Excel and basic data analysis; familiarity with SQL or data visualization tools is an asset.
- Knowledge of the electrical utility sector, electricity markets, regulatory environments, or energy trading is an asset.
- Awareness of change management, agile delivery, testing, and implementation practices is an asset.
