Affinity Accountants LLP is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Surrey team. If you’ve recently passed the Common Final Examination (CFE) and are working toward your CPA designation, we’d especially like to hear from you.
We are a CPA pre-approved training office, offering an environment where you can build your public practice experience as you work toward your designation.
We provide accounting, bookkeeping, tax, and advisory services to clients across the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland. Our approach is personal and practical: we take the time to understand our clients’ businesses and help them make informed decisions.
The opportunityYou’ll take ownership of client files, build relationships with business owners, and work with our team on accounting and tax matters across a variety of industries. This role suits someone who enjoys solving problems, takes pride in thorough work, and wants to continue developing their skills in public practice.
What you’ll do- Prepare year-end working papers, financial statements, and compilation engagement files.
- Prepare corporate and personal income tax returns and related filings.
- Review bookkeeping, reconcile accounts, and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with review and audit engagements, depending on your experience and client needs.
- Communicate with clients to gather information, answer questions, and explain accounting and tax matters clearly.
- Research accounting and tax issues and discuss recommendations with managers and partners.
- Manage multiple client files and deadlines, taking assignments through to completion.
- Support junior team members with file preparation and practical guidance.
What you bring- Ideally, three or more years of public practice accounting experience.
- Progress toward your CPA designation, with a recent successful CFE result preferred. Newly designated CPAs are also welcome.
- Experience preparing year-end files, financial statements, and Canadian corporate and personal tax returns.
- Working knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Canadian tax requirements.
- Proficiency with accounting, working-paper, and tax preparation software, along with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and a professional, approachable manner with clients.
- Initiative, reliability, and a willingness to contribute to the team.
Experience with review or audit engagements is an asset.
