About The Company
Jetson Home is dedicated to revolutionizing the way homes across North America adopt sustainable energy solutions. With a mission to accelerate the transition of 100 million homes away from fossil fuels, Jetson envisions a future that is entirely electric and significantly more efficient. Homes are among the largest contributors to carbon emissions, yet the adoption of clean energy technologies like heat pumps has been slow due to high costs and technical complexities. Jetson addresses this challenge by building the first fully vertically integrated home electrification company, making clean energy accessible, transparent, and affordable for homeowners. Leveraging advanced technology, automation, and data-driven insights, Jetson aims to scale its impact and promote widespread adoption of sustainable energy solutions. The company values individuals who excel in their craft, are curious about innovative tools - including AI - and are motivated to improve work processes continuously.
About The Role
As a Jetson System Designer, you play a crucial role in transforming signed agreements into actionable, installable plans. Your primary responsibility is to guide homeowners through virtual walkthroughs of their residences, accurately assessing the site, validating system sizing, and preparing detailed installation plans. These plans set the stage for a seamless installation process, ensuring the crew and homeowner are aligned for a successful project completion within a single day. Your work ensures that every project is properly permitted, meets local codes, and adheres to safety standards, thereby making the installation process efficient and stress-free. This role involves working across projects in the US and Canada, reporting directly to the Director of Customer Operations. It offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the company's mission of scaling home electrification and sustainable energy adoption.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a results-driven and detail-oriented mindset with a proven track record of delivering practical, executable plans. You should have a strong foundation in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems, including knowledge of how heat pumps perform in various climates. Experience with residential load calculations such as Manual J (US) or CSA F280 (Canada), along with working knowledge of electrical systems and code compliance (NEC or Canadian Electrical Code), is essential. Excellent communication skills in English - both written and verbal - are required to interact confidently and empathetically with homeowners and team members. You should have at least three years of experience in HVAC design, technical documentation, mechanical engineering, or related technical fields. Familiarity with CRM systems like HubSpot or Salesforce, and comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment, are highly desired. Bonus points are given for field experience in HVAC installation or servicing, and familiarity with permitting processes, building departments, or HOA/Strata approvals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct virtual site walkthroughs using online meeting tools, capturing essential photos and data markers for accurate calculations, site mapping, and materials planning.
- Perform and review heating and cooling load calculations (such as ACCA Manual J in the US or CSA F280 in Canada) to ensure proper system sizing tailored to each home and region, particularly for Jetson Air projects. Water and Charge projects have predefined requirements.
- Calculate electrical loads in accordance with local electrical codes (NEC or Canadian Electrical Code), including demonstrated load calculations, to verify panel capacity and identify necessary upgrades.
- Develop detailed installation plans, including site layout, unit placement, panel location, and lineset routing, designed to enable completion within a single day while ensuring customer approval and signoff.
- Manage permit applications and ensure compliance with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), including preparing necessary documentation for HOA or Strata approvals when applicable.
- Maintain clear communication and coordination with Customer Success, Project Coordinators, and Operations teams throughout each project lifecycle.
- Accurately track customer data, project progress, and documentation within Jetson’s CRM platform to ensure seamless project management and reporting.
