As Director AI, Automation & Digital Experience, you will provide enterprise leadership for AI platforms and capabilities that enable innovation, operational excellence, and improved experiences for healthcare providers, patients, and the public. Reporting to the CIO, Alberta Health Shared Services, this role will help advance responsible and transformative AI adoption.
Description:
The Director will lead the strategy, delivery, and evolution of enterprise AI and digital capabilities supporting healthcare organizations across Alberta. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for enterprise AI platform services, AI data assurance services, intelligent automation solutions, and digital web experience services. The role is accountable for technology strategy, delivery, governance, stakeholder engagement, budget stewardship, and people leadership. Key accountabilities: Shapes and advances the strategic vision for Enterprise AI Platform Services that enable innovation and value across Alberta's healthcare sector. Participates in AI governance and oversight, ensuring robust risk management, privacy, security, and ethical practices. Provides direct leadership to five reports and indirect leadership to approximately 30 employees across multidisciplinary teams. Plans, manages, and implements enterprise AI solution delivery, ensuring organizational readiness, data quality, and successful deployment of AI-enabled capabilities. Champions AI-enabled software development practices, accelerating innovation, quality, and operational efficiency through modern tools. Stewards significant operational and project investments with financial accountability for budgets, grants, and resource allocations. Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with health agencies and stakeholders, ensuring Enterprise AI, automation, and digital services align with business priorities and deliver measurable value.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technology or business discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Experience: Eight to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in Information Technology, including: Enterprise IT operations. Application delivery and support. Infrastructure, cloud platforms, and/or cybersecurity environments. At least three to five years in a formal IT leadership or management role, with responsibility for: Supervising and developing technical and professional staff. Managing budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships. Planning, prioritizing, and delivering IT and digital initiatives. Demonstrated ability to: Align technology solutions with business and organizational objectives. Lead or significantly contribute to digital initiatives that improve services, processes, or decision‑making.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience with AI, intelligent automation, digital transformation, or advanced analytics. Knowledge of AI governance, privacy, security, ethics, and risk management. Strong stakeholder management, budget oversight, vendor management, and change leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s in IT, Computer Science, Info Systems, Data Science, or related. Experience in: Healthcare, public sector, or regulated industries. Enterprise AI platforms and digital modernization. IT – 10+ years including 5+ in leadership. Leading IT/digital functions within large, complex, or unionized organizations. Public sector, post-secondary, healthcare, or regulated environment. Proven success in AI, data science, analytics, emerging technologies, and digital transformation.

Candidates need 3–5 years of formal IT leadership experience, relevant experience in AI, automation, digital transformation, or advanced analytics, and demonstrated capability in governance, stakeholder engagement, budgets, vendors, and change leadership; a related master’s degree and healthcare or public-sector experience are preferred.
