Description:
The Urban Acute Operational Informatics team is a clinical informatics team that improves health outcomes by empowering the Connect Care end user through education, communication and direct support. The Operational Clinical Informatics Lead (OCIL) is a professional leadership role within Urban Acute Operational Informatics, reporting directly to the Program Manager, Urban Acute Operational Informatics. The position is accountable for leading, monitoring and managing the development, implementation, maintenance, support and evaluation of operational and improvement work for Ambulatory departments within the “Big 16” hospitals in Alberta. The OCIL demonstrates leadership and expertise in the development, deployment, adoption, sustainability and optimization of Connect Care in support of the advancement of digital literacy and sustainment of foundational ambulatory workflows. As an expert in both systems configuration and clinical operations the OCIL is accountable for identifying user pain points and patient safety issues; analyzing complex business requirements; collaborating with IT, CMIO and site programs; facilitating results-oriented, user-focused solutions; and supporting adherence to established workflows. The OCIL uses previous experience operationalizing clinical information systems; transforming clinical process; applying user experience and human factors principles to improvements in technical functionality; and implementing process improvement initiatives to be successful in this role. The OCIL develops and maintains strong relationships with all levels of urban acute end users (clinicians, educators and managers), HSS Digital Health, Connect Care provincial governance groups and other operational clinical informatics portfolios within the Provincial Operational Informatics team.

Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in health informatics. Minimum 10 years of direct clinical experience or equivalent deep understanding of healthcare delivery. Active membership in good standing with an appropriate professional organization (e.g., CRNA, HSAA). Extensive knowledge of clinical practice, workflows, and clinical informatics functions. Minimum 10 years of progressive experience leading organizational change in large, complex environments. Demonstrated strong leadership skills supported by recent and relevant references.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Strong communication, follow‑up, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to negotiate solutions and resolve conflicts during implementation. Ability to lead IT and clinical operations staff through complex discussions and decision‑making. Detail‑oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to uncover underlying needs that inform system design. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, building positive relationships with vendor staff and external consultants.
Preferred Qualifications:
Connect Care experience in an ambulatory setting. Master’s level education. Three-five years in a formal supervisory/management role.
