Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse (RN) on Unit 4E4 reports to the Unit Manager, Pediatric Medicine. Unit 4E4 is a 25-bed pediatric inpatient unit that provides care for patients from infancy to 18 years of age. The unit serves a diverse pediatric population, including patients requiring care in general pediatrics, respirology, neurology, nephrology, and mental health, as well as patients from other pediatric specialty programs requiring inpatient support. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, the RN plays a key role in delivering high-quality, family-centered care. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care while practicing to full scope in accordance with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) standards, as well as University of Alberta Hospital and Stollery Children's Hospital policies and procedures. The RN provides safe, evidence-informed care while advocating for patients and families, supporting health education, and fostering collaborative relationships. Key responsibilities include coordinating care, administering medications, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, participating in interdisciplinary communication, and responding effectively to changes in patient condition. The RN is also actively involved in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety activities that enhance care delivery. The Pediatric Medicine Program offers a supportive environment with numerous opportunities for professional growth & development. Nurses can participate in unit-based education and safety initiatives, pursue advanced clinical certifications, contribute to quality & practice councils, & become involved in broader Alberta Health Services initiatives. Staff within the Medicine Program are cross-trained to support pediatric medicine units and other inpatient pediatric areas across the Stollery Children's Hospital.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience caring for children with tracheostomies and medically complex or medically fragile conditions considered an asset. Experience with Connect Care is also an asset.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with demonstrated initiative, accountability, critical thinking, sound clinical judgment, and effective organizational and time-management abilities. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining high standards of patient care.
