The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) is a provincial Crown corporation established to conduct and manage online gaming in Alberta. Alberta's regulated iGaming market launched in July 2026, creating a unique opportunity to help shape a new industry in the province. AiGC works with some of the world's largest gaming operators and is building the legal, regulatory, and operational frameworks that support a modern, competitive, and responsible online gaming market.
We're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our growing Legal Services Division. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role offers a rare opportunity to work across a broad range of legal matters in a dynamic and evolving environment. Rather than supporting a mature organization with established precedents and processes, you'll help build them.

About the Role
As Legal Counsel, you will provide legal advice and support across the full spectrum of AiGC's operations, including:
Commercial Contracting and Procurement
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements.
- Support procurement activities and advise on trade agreement obligations.
- Develop contract templates, clause libraries, and legal processes.
Corporate, Governance and Operations
- Provide day-to-day legal advice across organizational initiatives.
- Support policy and procedure development.
- Contribute to legal operations, knowledge management, and process improvement.
Operator Relationships
- Advise on operating agreements and commercial relationships with gaming operators.
- Support operator onboarding, compliance monitoring, and dispute resolution.
- Prepare agreements, amendments, notices, waivers, and related documents.
Risk, Compliance and Regulatory Matters
- Identify and mitigate legal and business risks.
- Support regulatory compliance initiatives and interactions with regulators.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the gaming sector.
Privacy and Employment Law
- Provide advice on privacy matters and applicable Alberta privacy legislation.
- Support Human Resources on employment-related matters, including workplace investigations, accommodations, discipline, and terminations.
Disputes and Litigation
- Assist with claims, disputes, and litigation matters.
- Work with external counsel and advise on insurance and liability issues.
Inter-jurisdictional Relations
- Support agreements and relationships with other jurisdictions, regulators, and government agencies.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, or eligibility to transfer membership.
- Minimum three (3) years of legal experience in private practice, in-house counsel, or a public-sector legal environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and statutory interpretation abilities.
- Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience handling confidential and commercially sensitive information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a growing organization where processes and precedents are still being established.
- Interest in developing expertise in the rapidly evolving iGaming industry.
