Job Summary:
The Manager, Accounting Operations is responsible for leading the company's day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information. This position oversees the monthly close process, general ledger accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and internal controls while supporting business operations, strategic initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
As a key member of the finance leadership team, the Manager partners closely Commercial, Purchasing, Treasury, Tax, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Information Systems strengthen financial controls, support public company reporting requirements, enhance the efficiency finance processes and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the month-end close process, ensuring the timely reporting of financial results to senior management.
- Manage the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable functions to ensure efficient, accurate, and compliant operations; supporting the consolidation as required.
- Ensure the integrity of accounting records and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other month-end accounting activities.
- Partner with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to support monthly financial analysis identifying key business drivers and actions where required.
- Establish, maintain, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting to support CEO and CFO certification requirements.
- Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks, accounting policies, and governance standards.
- Provide accounting expertise and analytical support for Commercial, Purchasing, Treasury, FP&A and other business functions.
- Identify control gaps and implement corrective actions to strengthen the overall control environment.
- Oversee the accounting and reporting activities for the corporate segment and Properties operations, while coordinating with finance teams across joint ventures.
- Support the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards, including assessing impacts on accounting financial reporting processes.
- Support with coordinating the annual external audit, including audit planning, execution, and resolution of audit findings.
- Lead, develop, and mentor members of the accounting team, providing coaching, performance feedback, work direction, and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
- Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency of the close process, strengthen internal controls, and improve reporting capabilities.
- Support business system implementations, upgrades, automation projects, and other corporate initiatives.
Skills, Abilities and Experience:
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA designation required.
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including experience leading teams.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and finance operations.
- Experience with transactional accounting, internal controls, and external audit processes.
- Advanced financial analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial systems skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent organization, planning and prioritization skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead and motivate groups and individuals
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Able to create and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
