Supplier Development Engineer

AllStaff Inc. is hiring on behalf of a global Tier-1 automotive manufacturing client in Huron Park, Ontario.
We are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer who can do more than track supplier issues.
This role is for someone who understands supplier quality, manufacturing processes, APQP, PPAP, corrective action and supplier performance and knows how to work directly with suppliers to turn problems into measurable improvement.
You will work across Supplier Quality, Engineering, Purchasing and Production to develop a reliable, high-performing supplier network supporting machined parts, castings, forgings and commercial components used in powertrain applications.
What you’ll own
- Develop, assess and improve new and existing suppliers
- Conduct supplier assessments, process audits and quality system audits
- Evaluate supplier quality, technical capability, capacity and reliability
- Lead supplier-side APQP activities for new products and engineering changes
- Review and drive Process Flow, PFMEA, Control Plans and PPAP
- Monitor supplier performance through PPM, on-time delivery, corrective action response and cost of poor quality
- Maintain supplier scorecards and lead supplier performance reviews
- Drive supplier corrective actions using 8D, 5-Why, Root Cause Analysis and SCAR
- Coordinate containment, sorting and corrective action verification
- Support SPC, capability studies, mistake-proofing and process improvement
- Identify and mitigate supplier risks involving capacity, quality, single-source dependency and financial stability
- Work with suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and long-term performance
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Support supplier technical discussions and engineering changes
- Maintain supplier quality records and documentation in SAP
- Communicate supplier risks, escalations and action plans clearly to internal and external stakeholders
- Travel to supplier facilities as required
What we’re looking for
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field
- 5+ years of supplier quality or supplier development experience
- Experience in automotive, heavy-duty or similar high-volume manufacturing
- Strong working knowledge of:
- APQP
- PPAP
- PFMEA / FMEA
- Control Plans
- MSA
- SPC
- 8D
- 5-Why
- Root Cause Analysis
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and AIAG requirements
- Hands-on SAP experience
- Technical understanding of machining, castings, forgings and/or heat treatment
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Supplier audit experience
- Strong supplier communication, influencing and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel to supplier facilities
Nice to have
- P.Eng. or EIT
- IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 auditor certification
- CQE / CSQP
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
- Supplier cost reduction / value analysis experience
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills

We are particularly interested in candidates who have personally worked with suppliers on quality issues, audits, APQP, PPAP, corrective actions, manufacturing capability and supplier improvement.
Experience in general quality, purchasing or manufacturing alone may not be enough for this role.
