Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager, OT Operations, the OT Operations Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance of Operational Technology (OT) systems supporting AltaLink’s transmission system operations. This includes MPLS networks, Radio systems, DWDM and its related substation telecom infrastructure and networking technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain OT inventory on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain operational telecom equipment and supporting infrastructure as needed to support a rapidly changing asset base and requirement set, including network devices, RADIUS servers, and various industrial control devices.
- Maintain engineering drawings for the telecom discipline, including supervisory circuits, fiber optic mapping, electronic security perimeter, device schematics and wiring templates to support projects and operations.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, Tripwire Enterprise, Solarwinds, and Palo Alto Traps would be considered an asset.
- Support the operational change management process including patch management, configuration change as they relate to OT infrastructure.
- Support patch and vulnerability assessments for applicable OT devices and associated actions including defining, planning and execution of mitigation tasks.
- Maintain and update Engineering standards, for approval by Principal Engineers, to ensure OT standards and requirements including ARS CIP and O&P are identified and adhered to.
- Support and document requirements associated with CIP event recoveries (responsible for Netcom and telecom devices).
- Vendor interactions and contract reviews to support patch availability through S&M contracts.
- Work closely with Projects and Asset Management to monitor and report on CIP/CSC KPIs.
- Escalate potential issues and non-compliance to Management.
- Work with the Operational Engineering OT Systems Engineers to assign and coordinate remediation tasks and track for timely compliance.
- Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- EIT or Professional Engineer with the Association of Engineers & Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or qualifies for registration with APEGA.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience, experience in the utility or industrial sector considered an asset. (We are ideally seeking an intermediate level candidate; however we welcome applications from individuals with a range of experience and will adjust the role accordingly).
- Proven ability/experience in the noted responsibilities.
- A working knowledge of AESO/NERC CIP compliance requirements or a strong background in general regulatory compliance as it relates to utilities/industrials.
- Strong experience with business analysis and requirement gathering techniques.
- Ability to analyze/interpret data and create reports to Management.
- Strong planning and communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
- Operational experience in IT/OT networks plus telecom or electric utility equipment maintenance, experience in a Wide Area Network (WAN) environment is an asset.
- Self-motivated to pursue goals and shows initiative to identify and take ownership over issues. Experience engaging with multiple engineering/electric system disciplines is considered an asset.
- Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
