Job description Senior Engineer – Mining Products
Job Purpose:
The Senior Mining Product Engineer will focus on the design and development of mining-class attachments and equipment, while mentoring and supporting the Engineering and Design team. This role drives product innovation for mining applications, improves engineering methods for large fabricated structures, and ensures the successful execution of mining product programs. It requires deep technical knowledge of mining duty cycles, wear environments, and heavy-duty structural design, along with the ability to troubleshoot field issues and balance competing requirements. Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Product Design & Development •Prepare CAD technical packages for mining attachments, including 3D models and detailed drafting of large weldments. •Facilitate, lead, and participate in design reviews and Design for X (DFX) evaluations, including Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Serviceability (DFS). •Propose, implement, and document design changes and process improvements specific to mining products. •Work with outside vendors to define requirements for purchased or fabricated subcomponents, including GET, wear packages, and hydraulic components.
Technical Support & Collaboration •Provide engineering support to production and product support teams to resolve manufacturing and field service challenges on mining products. •Support customer-facing activities including site visits, commissioning, and field investigations at mining operations. •Assist marketing, sales, and business development teams with modeling, rendering, drafting, and technical application guidance for mining customers. •Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, cost efficiency, durability, and serviceability under mining duty cycles.
Mentorship & Quality Assurance
- Train, support, and mentor engineering team members on but not limited to mining products.
- Review and assess team members’ work for accuracy and completeness.
- Help standardize and improve design procedures and best practices for all products.
Job Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- P.Eng license or experience required to be licensed.
- 8+ years of product development experience in mining, heavy construction, or heavy equipment industries.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Suite (Vault, Inventor) or similar CAD software.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to lead projects, mentor engineers, and translate concepts into reality.
Considered an Asset:
- Experience designing mining attachments such as face shovel buckets, hydraulic mining shovel buckets, wheel loader buckets, or GET/wear systems.
- Familiarity with mining OEM platforms (Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, Liebherr). •Experience conducting field investigations or product validation at mine sites.
- Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) applied to large welded structures.
- Experience with high-strength and abrasion-resistant steels.
- Experience with mobile hydraulics and welded structure design (AWS, CWB, or ISO 2553).
