AMJ is a reputable and fast-paced moving company seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Finance Manager to join our accounting team in Edmonton, AB. Reporting to the General Manager and will oversee key accounting functions, billing, support daily departmental operations, and assist to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records.
The successful candidate will play an important role in month-end and year-end close processes, account reconciliations, financial reporting, tax and government filings, internal controls, and the investigation of accounting discrepancies. This role requires a hands-on, results-driven professional who can manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across all AMJ branches.
Responsibilities:
- Perform accounting and finance-related duties delegated by the Corporate Controller and General Manager.
- Maintain and monitor the company’s accounting records and conduct monthly and quarterly reviews.
- Support month-end, and year-end closing processes, ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze monthly Profit & Loss reports for management.
- Oversee the preparation and review of biweekly payroll for submission to a third-party payroll provider.
- Manage the preparation and remittance of GST and other government payments.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and maintain general ledger accuracy.
- Coordinate year-end documentation and liaise with external accountants.
- Manage and mentor a team of three to four accounting professionals.
- Prepare and process billing for long-distance moving services, ensuring accurate invoices based on contracts, tariffs and completed services.
- Calculate and process driver and sales commission payments based on company compensation policies and completed transactions.
- Reconcile van lines statements and adjust commission payments.
- Maintain and strengthen internal control processes and accounting systems.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM Software (Moveware).
- Confidence in managing a strong team environment.
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- Must be able to clear a Criminal Background Check.
- A positive attitude, resilience, and attention to detail with a focus of accuracy.
- Speak English fluently.
- A minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience.
- Preferred experience with moving software program – Moveware,
- Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete multiple assignments accurately and within established deadlines.
