Position Overview
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Wire EDM Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Wire EDM equipment to produce high-quality precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, customer requirements, and established manufacturing standards. The Wire EDM Machinist works closely with Production, Quality, and other departments to ensure parts are produced safely, efficiently, and accurately.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, setup sheets, and customer specifications to determine machining requirements.
- Program, set up, and operate Wire EDM machines, including selecting appropriate tooling, fixtures, materials, and machining parameters.
- Optimize EDM programs, speeds, feeds, and machine settings to achieve required quality, accuracy, and production efficiency.
- Inspect first-piece and in-process parts, making adjustments as required to ensure conformance with specifications and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot basic programming, machining, tooling, and equipment issues and communicate more complex issues to the appropriate team.
- Complete production documentation, including job tracking, production quantities, setup information, and program changes.
- Maintain machines, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition, including deburring, cleaning, and properly handling finished parts.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, CNC, Engineering, and other departments to support production, continuous improvement, and safe manufacturing practices.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience programming, setting up, and operating Wire EDM equipment. Experience in the aerospace industry is an asset.
- DEP in in CNC Machining or related field
- Must be able to do complex setups independently
- Ability to read technical drawings (GD&T)
- High level of autonomy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
