Role Description The Butcher Assistant role is a part-time, on-site position. In this role, the team member will learn various skills from the Head Butcher: cutting, trimming, and preparing meat products for retail, wholesale, and custom orders. Daily tasks include organizing and labeling products, maintaining clean and sanitary work areas, assisting with packing and wrapping, and following food safety and hygiene standards. The role also involves helping customers with product selection, answering questions, and ensuring a positive in-store experience. The Butcher Assistant works closely with the team to uphold quality control, meet production goals, and maintain safe handling procedures for all meat and seafood products.
Qualifications
- Practical skills in butchery, including basic cutting, trimming, and handling of meat products.
- Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with customers and team members.
- Commitment to hygiene and food safety, including proper sanitation, cleanliness, and safe handling practices.
- Attention to quality control, with the ability to follow standards, check product quality, and minimize waste.
- Ability to work on-site in a physically demanding environment, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and working in chilled areas.
- Basic knowledge of meat types and cuts; willingness to learn specialized products such as wagyu and game meats.
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a butcher shop, meat processing, or food service environment is an asset but not required.
