Financial Controller

Pay Rate: $55–$58/hour

Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations and financial controls while working closely with the Finance Director. This role will be responsible for managing the accounting department, ensuring accuracy and compliance, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous improvement across financial processes.
The ideal candidate is a strong financial leader with hands-on accounting experience, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in both French and English.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the accounting department and day-to-day accounting operations.
- Develop, maintain, and update departmental ISO procedures and ensure their implementation.
- Review and validate accounting entries and financial transactions.
- Prepare and review monthly financial results and month-end reports.
- Manage petty cash and perform monthly reconciliations.
- Participate in budget preparation and semi-annual financial consolidations.
- Implement, monitor, and improve internal financial controls.
- Analyze financial accounts and identify discrepancies or opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with the Finance Director in preparing financial statements.
- Act as the primary contact for government agencies and oversee related accounting reconciliations.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, and other external financial partners.
- Oversee payroll accounting records and reconciliations.
- Review and prepare year-end financial reports.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate accounting department employees.
- Oversee the accounting and financial management of subsidiaries.
- Ensure the department operates efficiently and in accordance with established procedures and policies.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Professional accounting designation such as CA, CGA, or CMA is an asset, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 3–5 years of experience managing an accounting department, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Fluency in both French and English, written and spoken.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and financial management skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
